Go to your nearest public square (if your at college then go outside), play a song on your best instrument. See how much engagement you get. Then the next day, read some poems, check again. The following day, ask people about excerpts from arcane philosophers you think other people _should_ be interested in often preaching them as gospel and check how much engagement you get.
Philosophy, especially quotes when taken out of context are completely useless except for rage bait. Philosophy is also built mostly on argumentative behaviors, challenges beliefs, and is often deceptive in small potions (or at least interpreted that way). You may view this type of disruption as a "good thing" but most of us didn't come to be judged or irritated lol.
Post nearly anything else, and expect orders of magnitude more engagement. Honestly I get quite bothered with kind1 chatter or opinionated summarizations of philosophical works. You're better off telling me to read the book then share something entirely out of context.
Few things bother me more than seeing a someone post a one liner form Carl Jung. If you read the paragraph before and after the cherry-picked phrase, it completely destroys the interpretation you wish to present.

Seems that way. Although there are so man more "urgent care" places popping up here. Im very near an urban area that lost most of it's hospitals. The best options are really to get yourself into the big city, which is same one hospital serving over 2 million people right now. There are one or two "smaller" hospitals that are basically just big urgent cares with some emergency staff and transport into the city, but they aren't much closer for me.

Prepped a slamming breakfast bowl last night mostly with leftovers. Eggs, cottage cheese, leftover baked potato, leftover pork sausage, red pepper, sweet onion, S&P, just a pinch garlic powder. The red pepper, sweet onion and potato really make it. Go a little light on the egg to keep the fat down, no butter, non-fat cottage cheese, and the pork sausage I get at the store has 15g protein with 8g fat somehow and taste great.

This would be no different to an ISP? ISP can absolutely see tor traffic so this only stands if for some reason your ISP is retarded? Which in the US is likely to be one of 4-5 major companies, all of which have state-of-the-art traffic detection for their ad's business. And we cannot simply forget about Room 641A.
A primary (and my opinion only) purpose of a VPN is to shield traffic from your ISP, which has the added benefit of hiding your physical location from servers. Because ISPs publish your IPaddress location information for legal reasons, and because they get advert money from it.
Then, you must vet your VPN the same way we don't trust our ISPs because we simply shifted the watching to the VPN opposed to our ISP. However the VPN provider has been proven to be much less likely NOT to share your traffic information NOR your personally identifiable information on the public internet to find in milliseconds like ISPs do.

Don't think this is true at all. Tor works just fine being tunneled over wireguard out of the box ime. So not sure which setting people are leaving off that breaks this.
If were worried about the alphabet bois none of these are a solution, and I would consider them equally a problem. Tor traffic is identifiable, and can be time-correlated well enough by the alphabet bois that you're pretty boned using tor at all if they care enough about you.

I had this whole note on marking emails as spam, blocking them, and how it hurts all of the companies involved, then I clicked away and lost it.
Basically, stop buying stuff from emails even if it's a good deal because that's a signal for them to send you more and marking emails as spam and blocking senders hurts reputations of agencies, mail senders, and greedy marketers.

I can't disagree tbh. I have some experience with the new Radeon pro R9700s, and they can be had for about the same price with 32gb of vram.
Something that's really important on nvidia systems with both vllm and llama-cpp is pcie bus transfer speeds when using tensor parallelism. Id suggest a host system that libnccl supports. That means if you run multiple cards, that the pcie slots share the same root complex. That means a "good" cpu and motherboard. Many modern consumer processors simply don't have enough pcie lanes and have to multiplex lanes and lbnccl can't build a usable transport (or it's limited) becoming your bottleneck. Nvidia also has a bunch of strange kernel apis like peermem and uvm and they all apply to different host systems.
Finding that out myself with dual processor systems. My numbers are still amazing for only having ~1gb/s link between cards with no nccl support.

Sort of. I think there is an early project on nostr attempting to handle this. The issue is that you can't really break up an LLM across distributed compute yet. So unless you have a big enough system to run a useful model at usable speeds were sol.
I currently have a big enough system to share, but not enough to handle the concurrence and model variation that a community might need. Id also have to charge 6x what the most expensive tokens are to serve it.

It took me a while to get that down. Over the past 6-7 years i've gotten it down to sometimes every few days. My happy average is maybe 20 mins/day right now. Sometimes there's a lot of rage bait and I go away for a few days or a week. If it's intentional, youll find a good balance, and I hope you give yourself the patience to know that it might take while for you to reach that. It took me many years, to get to the point that _most_ (but not all) the time I come here, it's because I wanted to.

I think many if not most people feel this way. Work harder, and more discipline! Well duh, it's correct but also if it was that simple we'd all just be doing it.
Personally Ive improved this by
1) cutting some things off and not committing to new stuff
2) allocating dedicated time to play with new things. You won't forget it, if the excitement wears off before you touch it, then it probably wasnt real.
3) Ensure the idea has multiple uses and you would use it yourself, even if your the only one to use it. If it can be rolled into mainline and replace or improve other tools, put it there.
4) Once it can be proved viable - to you, not to other users, or social media - set goals on it. I use my issue tracker for that, even for physical tasks.

I've somewhat accidentally become an all Dell device holder, almost. I still have a few supermicro machines. The precision I picked up in the winter has been running 24/7 for about 9 months now I guess.
Most of these OEM devices, especially the professional ones, usually use well-documented and ubiquitous components that make them pretty easy for linux to support which is nice. Older and more consumer devices I've found usually have less support, especially the bleeding edge devices. Then aftermarket components, forget about it.

I've been far more serious about this with the new flock upgrades sniffing for wireless device signals. If you live near one I'm sure it's sniffing us in our homes so i've removed everything wifi that I can and try only turning the phone on once and a while to check for missed calls or if I need it for something.
I think this is more doable with a voip line. You can transfer your cell number over to it and many offer SMS as an option, so you if you need to make or take traditional calls or SMS you can from other devices.

My problem is with the software engineers. Thinking they can solve all problems with software. And maybe they _can_ but it's about trust, something they refuse to understand. Yes it's far more portable, not saying it shouldn't exist, but the people suggesting software fixes for hardware trust need to understand why we're upset.
Regardless, the idea of we still need to compromise on privacy/sec for convenience to have closer feature parity is nuts. Normies are going to normie, Im not suggesting we don't reach them, but that work needs to be done culturally.

Ebay, serverpartdeals.com, unixsurplus.com, your local facebook hardware dealer, reddit homelabs section. Yeah those last few suck, but have been the most fruitful. In the past i've been lucky enough to make friends with guys to get hired to decommission data-centers or offices and they have to clean and scrap the hardware, or government auctions etc. They let the hardware go cheap because they don't know or care what they have it's all profit.
If for whatever reason you were interested in bulk server hardware there are some bulk/surplus sellers on ebay (and there actual stores) that make bulk deals. If you were interested and could commit id be willing to partner on some bulk equipment depending on what you were interested in. I wouldn't mind making the order and meeting you to drop it off.
Im pretty sure we live within a reasonable drive of each other it wouldn't be a big deal.

That's been my concern, is while I haven't pulled the technical those devices typically have circuit breakers built-in disconnecting them from mains at much lower currents than the main trip current. With type 3 stuff they generally trip open circuit to mains (in my experience) disconnecting them further damage. If surge current tripped the Type2 but not the main, then it stops functioning. While in the even of a lightning strike, it appears it's uncommon for measurable surge current to last more than 1ms at the strike location, the higher order oscillations must last longer than a few milliseconds in the average case.
This appears to depend heavily on the type of surge.

Yeah, honestly funny, because I was going to say the opposite. Around here, we rarely see surges but when we do I almost always have to reset breakers on big loads like AC (if it was running) or always the pool pump (but that's quite the different mechanism and likely due to GFCI due to the grounding techniques required for pool systems).

Anyway, TL;DR it's highly dependent on the fault. The earth has high transient impedance on the us time scale, there is ripple, eddys, the magnetic field of the surface of the earth at the strike radius, the transient impedance of circuit path to the point of entry, the size of service transformer and it's grounding and arc-based suppression devices (and any in the chain) causing ripple on the line due to energy stored in the b-fields of the cabling etc.
The lightning strike itself is rarely the cause, it seems like where the strike was and the amount of energy displaced into the earth's surface and if it struck any distribution components directly.
This article discusses average strike currents (across all strokes) but does not discuss energy, I guess we'd be getting into atmospheric E and B field gradients or something silly like that XD

Home loads are relatively low impedance devices, suppression devices become as close to 0 as possible. 100kv DC across low relative impedance is thousands of amps for a very brief period. Do devices ever see that, im not sure.
If the transient lasts long enough, id have to imagine the average lightning strike is a ~100ms or so? I've never studied this however.

Those 2 are the devices that will work together to clamp surge voltages to something your type 3 device can manage. The best for you here depends on who made your breaker panel. One of mine is made by Siemens and one by the manufacturer of my panel. Both cost me $300 ish total for parts, I did my own installs.
I still have mixed feelings about pannel-based whole-home suppressors. In theory they can only help suppress spikes up to the current their rated for, which is usually much lower than the fast blow of the main breaker. Which means that if enough current is transferred it will trip/disconnect before the main breaker does leaving you vulnerable again.
Id much prefer surge suppression at the device location where the suppression action disconnects the device completely from the line. Generally the MOV/arc variants will cause over-current protections to trip in the suppression device disconnecting it.
I suppose more modern equipment that was designed with surge suppression might take that into account over a retrofit, but Id at least need to confirm that the main breaker disconnects due to over-current before the suppressor disconnects or fails. I will still always have end-point suppression protections.
On the AVR topic, usually the auto transformers in the devices have a single buck/boost winding, and all my nicer/commercial devices will shut down and disconnect the output if input voltage drops below the min output after boost, or above max out during buck. But this action can take hundreds of milliseconds as 60hz = 16.6ms for sampling, processor decision, relay action, and auto transformer transient impedance. So during surges it's largely ineffective, you just hope surge suppression works for spikes.
For switch mode power supplies, they are pretty resilient to large transients in input voltage, and have so many protections they can take lots of abuse without damaging themselves or components.

Enterprise UPS devices usually do "conditioning" with common mode filtering and other inductance based filtering. Inductive is usually the best way to filter AC ripple. Surges are often DC (like from lightning strikes) and can be shunted by surge suppression passives like MOVs. Capacitance doesn't do much for AC conditioning except shift the power factor with it's phase change and hurt your electric bill.
Most Line Interactive UPS units use auto transformers to boost or buck output voltage, with the transformers usually acting as the choke/filter.

This is often referred to as Double Conversion type. Essentially a big switch mode power supply, battery, and inverter output.

Worst was about 7 years ago had an entire array of drives start to fail all at once. Then the temp target machine I had at lease one drive throw errors when backing up. I had a full real-time remote backup but it was remote...
The entire machine fell apart, backplane errors, I had the wrong drive caddies for it, and it was running in a very hot environment, so I ended up parting the machine out and buying another one lol. Then slowly picked up some cheap drives and restored normal operations.
Right now would hurt of my SSD array went out. It would need 4 drives to fail at once before the hot spares could take over, then id have to fail over to one of my disk based machines.

Yeah if you didn't need the redundancy you get a ton of small-sized benefits for the price! 32gb is pretty limiting for my workloads, clustering overhead and modern software absolutely swallow memory, and when running in a cluster often sacrificing memory for redundancy or load distribution as well, you really have to calculate the price of running some software nowdays lol.

Looking at pricing that's still somewhat true, at least was before last year. You could pick up a used DDR4 x86 rack machine for the price of a single module. 5x the power consumption but 50x the performance in flops, bus sizes, transfer speeds, redundancy, IO lol
Still neat, but I always find it hard to put money down on new-ish technologies. They also seem to hold their value pretty well I've been looking for used systems.
If I was living on the move, Id want to build something like this to partially replace my rack and be able to run it on solar or battery/engine power for a while.

Yeah exactly! If PLCs weren't so expensive I would have picked some up to play with. But as with most industrial stuff it's locked down in proprietary garbage etc. Im sure a lot has changed over the years and now probably plenty of older devices that would work well, but I haven't looked into it in a while.

Yeah you gotta make those tradeoffs lol. Last place/roomates were the same way. I was able to integrate them with hass and take everything offline and setup programs and they were mostly happy. Everyone else gets their own SSID, vlan, and VPN for their outbound traffic so it hopefully can't come back to me.

The reason I like kind 1 is the it's no strings attached. There is no etiquette there is no permission. It's fire and forget, and chat with people who feel like commenting. Share a thought, an opinion, some data, some memes and it all comes in unfiltered.
Forums are heavily moderated, have rules and a required etiquette, they require topics of discussion, and the only people who can tolerate all that friction are usually people you don't want to be around or meet in person.
Group chats and tools like are less strict but also have a funnel on topics and don't scale with many users. Talk too much and users that might have good input walk away because the thread got too long and people are too chatty.
Im not saying the kind 1 spec itself needs to stay. Im suggesting personal vomit feeds with threaded replies are something I tend to enjoy about nostr and social media in general, and if it died completely id be looking for it elsewhere I suppose.

Oh, and I just paused right before they talked about connecting automatically to open networks like common public wifis, or guest channels on most consumer wifi routers. So if you live within range of a normie, chances are their router has a default "guest" network enabled. Companies like T-Mobile, AT&T, Comcast and others configure their devices to automatically connect to networks in the area to help reduce load on their towers. Especially helpful in cities and urban areas.

That helps my cause, but it turns out (watching the video now) that those TVs are still recording full audio clips, transcripts, and advertising categories as well as other categorized sounds it hears like hidden ad noises from other devices etc.
So as long as it never gets plugged into the network and you never get your house raided your good.

Same here. Weird, we can't use our nest app outside the house, or our GE range/oven etc. Yeah that's weird, I wouldn't worry about it too much though, it's probably a good thing...

They're also scanning the entire internet on from your connection. Our servers can't take it. If you have a modern smart TV please do your part and throw it in the garbage or learn to setup firewall rules to block it's scanning activity. Unfortunately without your consent, your smart TV is destroying the internet, and especially burdensome for smaller hosters.

I wonder. Honestly I can't stand forums. But mostly I can't stand forum users, if you think nostr, twitter instagram or reddit it toxic, find the smallest forum that claims to be the most helpful tolerant and supportive, ill bet you they post photo-shopped images of your wife in minutes.

Well I guess everything is driven by clankers now so... Even my note is going to end up stale. Protocol spec and "design spec as if your talking to a bad intern" are two very different things. Ill have to take a closer look at that link when I have time :P

For the record my proposal would be completely backward compatible with the current impl of nostr. Clients would simply choose to honor and build trust trees if they chose. Otherwise keys present as individuals as they always did. The published delegation events produce the trust tree. Follow them, get the trust.

You can't make the client chicken-egg problem. Jumble is still one of the most popular clients I see in my referrer logs and it implements deletions.

Because revokation is a signal. It completes a chain. If information exists or are found, they can simply be marked as revoked without losing their information. Yes previously valid, but revoked information can still be useful.
My proposal has a flaw that prevents this from working completely, but the ability for clients to maintain continuity after revocation allows identities to continue transparently.

XD True, but Pixels are pretty easily mitigated in browsers and even firewalls, outbox can't it MUST bypass those protections in order to function. So yeah id consider it has possibility for more damage than a pixel does. Ugh, imagine if we still use outbox and companies figure that out XD
Im sure the NSA has at least one relay the majority of nostr users are connected to right now sharing their location and habits with.

So was I. I remember you were one of the first to _force_ outbox compliance among clients. You pushed the updates then went on a campaign tagging other clients for weeks to update to support it. People complained for weeks or months on amethyst that they couldn't speak with nostr users on other clients because they didn't use outbox yet.
Users wanted to see notes, relays could be unreliable. Outbox _is_ a compromise, that's it. I'm suggesting now that it's time to rethink it.

We still lack transparent mobile device hardware if we have any hope of using mobile devices in any seriously private capacity.
Mobile is such cargo cult, you're not allowed to doubt with supporting evidence, and no one can prove anything. Much due to the closed source nature of hardware devices. This is not new, and extends out to many reaches of devices, but there are companies that are more transparent then others.
When people make the "We'll your argument is basically just to not use a phone" I guess now that's true. It's no longer an if, it's just a when. I think you _do_ need to give up convenience now.

Mostly I think, there is no reason we can't add more depth. My proposal was mostly focused on providing an x509-like experience, where delegation was a tree.
