We still lack transparent mobile device hardware if we have any hope of using mobile devices in any seriously private capacity.
Mobile is such cargo cult, you're not allowed to doubt with supporting evidence, and no one can prove anything. Much due to the closed source nature of hardware devices. This is not new, and extends out to many reaches of devices, but there are companies that are more transparent then others.
When people make the "We'll your argument is basically just to not use a phone" I guess now that's true. It's no longer an if, it's just a when. I think you _do_ need to give up convenience now.
GrapheneOS is partnered with Motorola Mobility which is Lenovo's mobile division.
In 2011, Motorola was split into Motorola Mobility and Motorola Solutions. Google acquired Motorola Mobility in 2012 and sold it to Lenovo in 2014. Motorola Mobility is the company selling smartphones and tablets.
