Enterprise UPS devices usually do "conditioning" with common mode filtering and other inductance based filtering. Inductive is usually the best way to filter AC ripple. Surges are often DC (like from lightning strikes) and can be shunted by surge suppression passives like MOVs. Capacitance doesn't do much for AC conditioning except shift the power factor with it's phase change and hurt your electric bill.
Most Line Interactive UPS units use auto transformers to boost or buck output voltage, with the transformers usually acting as the choke/filter.

This is often referred to as Double Conversion type. Essentially a big switch mode power supply, battery, and inverter output.
