I think many if not most people feel this way. Work harder, and more discipline! Well duh, it's correct but also if it was that simple we'd all just be doing it.

Personally Ive improved this by
1) cutting some things off and not committing to new stuff
2) allocating dedicated time to play with new things. You won't forget it, if the excitement wears off before you touch it, then it probably wasnt real.
3) Ensure the idea has multiple uses and you would use it yourself, even if your the only one to use it. If it can be rolled into mainline and replace or improve other tools, put it there.
4) Once it can be proved viable - to you, not to other users, or social media - set goals on it. I use my issue tracker for that, even for physical tasks.
my form of self-sabotage is never finishing anything, never getting my projects from good to great, and starting more projects that go nowhere instead. shiny object syndrome.
