Nostr only having 5 new posts a day is a feature not a bug. In case you forget to bookmark or want to find something again just scroll down 3-5 posts and there it is. Not like stupid twitter that keeps flopping around and moving where you are in the feed so you lose the cool thing you’re doing. I haven’t used twitter in a year but I’m guessing it’s still the same.

I have a Xeon whatever with integrated graphics, no real gpu. I think at least 64gb ram too. Running ollama qwen3:4b with open web ui and it seems connected and working through Umbrel is 1.7.4 configurations. It takes 1-5 minutes per response. The responses are blank. It’s logging token use and chat history and even auto summarizing chat titles but I have yet to get any response from it besides something like {parameter}{date}{time} some jargon crap like that. So far I am wholly unimpressed with “local, home, self-hosted AI”. Completely useless.

I want to put a little ai on an old desktop. Just to practice. Anyone have luck doing this without buying something big, new or fancy? What model or set up would you recommend trying first that might be dumber but quick enough to not be frustrating? Also looking to not cook the hardware 🙏

UPS - uninterrupted power supply (most versions try to detect power loss and switch to battery back up) not always a power quality monitor.
Power conditioners on the affordable end use emi/rfi filters, voltage regulation circuits and capacitors. The higher end ones run off a battery that’s charged with clean power from capacitors and voltage regulation. So on the high end stuff the power conditioning is for the battery and the battery provides clean DC power. It’s not great for battery life usually but is significantly more protection.
Double check me, I could be wrong. This wasn’t AI, I’m going off what I know and it’s not much.

Don’t quote me here, not sure this would help but I couldn’t hurt: whole home surge protection: $150-400, power conditioning/line conditioner $200-300, and ubiquiti makes RJ45 surge protectors for $20.
I’m guessing that lots of people run their own nas, dns, adblocker; not many people run their own vpn; not one human in the world runs their own email server 😂😂😂 maybe FIPS, nostr, auth-blossom-inbox-reply-outbox-pizzazz fixes all that but I don’t think anyone has fully streamlined and idiot-proofed it yet because I’m retarded and don’t get any of it.

What a frustrating season. 10 hour days, 6-7 days a week, just working and sweating. Now summer is ended and with it my hope for happiness, but at least my balls won’t be sweating for much longer.
