A gaussian blur is a step in a process where you are actively creating an image. Even if you don't like the result, you have learned something in the process. Running a large language model will create fanfic and hallucinations, and neither you nor the model learns anything. There is an argument to be made that it actually makes you less creative and damages your reasoning ability.

It's also an unnecessary distinction. Magic tricks are physics and mathematics too. LLMs are exactly that kind of trick.
"The mind is just math" doesn't mean "large language models can think".
They are emulating a tiny tiny part of the mechanism of thought, in a brutally mistaken way that doesn't generalize itself to actual reasoning.

And I get one letter from an editor saying you need to turn this into an article and another letter saying this is way too much code to fit into BIOS.

If Discord gets a 4/5 for functionality then something is fucked up, it's an appallingly bad piece of software that gets in the way more than anything else. It's a disaster.

I was impressed and disappointed by that book. When I read it I'm pretty sure DG was still a player, but it was obvious to me that the computer they were designing was a terrible hack with no future, the people complaining about it being "a bag one the side of the eclipse" were completely right, and if they had been working on a better design it might have been amazing.

It's like the Godel Incompleteness Theorem. A systems programming language is either unsafe or so constrained as to be useless. Fortran is relatively safe because it has no pointers. Swift is close to a Godel-busting language. Rust may be closer. But Pascal and Modula 2 were not in the race.

So I went to turn off my new ipad Air and held the power button down to bring up the slider to turn it off, like I did on my previous ipad. It kept bringing up Siri. I asked Siri "how do I turn my ipad off" and it brought up Michael Bolton videos and finally offered to turn it off for me, so I gave in and said yes.
I didn't think this was the normal way to do it, but whatever the normal way was wasn't very discoverable and Siri was, as usual, completely ass at actually being useful.
