So much of the web now is doomerism and outrage. It's sad to see and hard to avoid.
Emergency departments also tend to run at a loss, which doesn't help anything. Even ours at the biggest system in the state, in the capitol city is in the red right now. Breaking even is our goal lol
Urgent cares are generally quite limited too, depending where they are. There are specific definitions for what we are labeled (urgent, emergent, trauma leveling, stroke, cardiac cath lab, etc). Having the best care in super remote places is an unfair expectation. It's really expensive.
But we've taken over a small ED recently and had one shut down in the city. It's caused us a lot of pain for the past couple years. Now we're expanding but it's a very long and expensive process.
The asinine nature of medical school is one example. The entire structure is designed to output very few providers. So we import them with hit or miss outcomes and have shortages of care in general. I'd be okay making less if I didnt need to waste so much time and money completing steps that really have nothing to do with medicine.
I'm not a physician but if you put me in some random African village I'd be far more medical care than they could ever dream of. I can't do that here, no matter how remote or how little care is in an area. People aren't allowed to choose me for their care, even though I'd be better than what they have. There are other sides to that issue, of course. But we don't even do anything to help get people up to the standards to provide that care. The incentives are to not do that, actually.
Emergency care isn't that great in those hospitals anyway, but yeah it's better than nothing. I've had this idea of micro care facilities that could exist if we didnt have as much regulation, CON laws, etc. Even caregiver licensing is a problem. The government doesn't really give a fuck if the people in an area have nothing if not something that falls short of the government's requirements. Too fucking bad.
It's the second most regulated industry in the US. The private nature of it is little more than an illusion in my opinion. It's a super inefficient illusion that results in pretty much the worst of both worlds. We do have some benefits. My small city alone has more MRI and CT scanners than some countries. We generally have access to very good emergency care.
But dude I see so much waste even on my shifts. It's retarded.
I also don't like makeup anyway so I'm biased. I'm reminded of funeral homes, which for me (thankfully) is a major turnoff.

I came back to a bunch of changes in my client and now I don't see new notifications anymore. This is the sort of shit that wears me down over years. The basics are continuously broken in most clients I've used.

I decided to fuck around on Nostr a bit after coming back briefly for the Trezor thing. I thought no one was interacting. Nah. My client just wasn't showing notifications. Lol Classic.
The definition of maxi is pretty vague these days, but I generally think it's best to just let market forces decide. I don't give a damn what people use. I don't have to accept it. If I did choose to, I can trade it, sell it, whatever. I think a single currency world is a fantasy not worth spending much energy on. If that makes me not a maxi then so be it.

It's funny watching people stutter and stumble when they find out that a black man was the holdout in the Clancy trial. They wanted it to be a white man so badly and watching their brains break in real time is interesting.
He was just a dumb black dude who obviously didn't understand or he would have went along with all the white women. So much for black voices.
I was unconvinced that she was psychotic for the murders. I've worked around psychotic patients and have doubts, but it isn't my expertise (there are psychiatrists who agree though, and their opinions align with my understanding and experience with the illness). I didn't have reasonable doubt that she killed the children. She planned the murders, went out of her way to ensure she carried them out, and failed to kill herself to avoid facing the reality of her choice. Only then did she need a way to avoid the reality of what she chose. I think she took calculated steps to trick her husband into leaving because she knew he'd intervene. She knew he would intervene because he would think it was wrong. By extension, she knew it was wrong by some standard but chose to do it anyway. Being depressed isn't a free pass and the whole psychosis defense seems fabricated to me. Psychotic people, in my experience, are not that organized. I think she wanted to take them with her and she deserves to be in prison for that (at a minimum). Should she get help with depression while in there? Sure. I believe she was depressed. Plenty of depressed people kill themselves or seek help without murdering others.
It's also a complete lie that there aren't mental health resources for women. In my own experience, I've seen the opposite reality and stigma in the hospital.
Women in the US are taking a dangerous path toward fewer rights for themselves if this is really how they think. If your argument is that women are at the mercy of their emotions and have no accountability for their actions... Why are they voting or holding serious positions? Why are they winning custody battles at such a high rate? Why do they get equal rights if they really don't have more control than a young child?
To be clear, I think this is all bullshit. There are real cases of psychosis. I don't think this is clearly one of them and I don't believe this is inherently true of women broadly. Really it seems to be mostly women making this argument.

I'm less convinced than ever that anyone in the cockpit gives a fuck. It's all short term thinking these days. I member when my student loan debt was gonna be forgiven too. Lol
I don't know if they will or not, but it's kind of been done before. Obama sort of did it. They went crazy for Covid. I agree it probably won't happen. Not 5k. If they do, I'll get maybe 500 and the rest will end up who the fuck knows where. Lol
But hey, maybe it'll at least get the left to argue against itself for a few minutes simply because Trump was the one to do it. A fun clown show no matter what.

The Nostr.build renewal flow is nice.
A couple improvements:
Tell future users to follow the messenger npub so renewal messages aren't lost in the "unknown" senders or whatever in a particular client. I followed it and now my client doesn't treat messages like potential spam.
Make the renewal link go to a page specifically for renewal. I had to go find it in the settings. Took a minute to figure out. No big deal. Just landing there after login would be neat. Or have a popup on login that asks the user to renew, with a link.
This is totally petty though. Something to consider if the developer gets bored. The flow worked well and other nostr services should take a look if it would make sense for their thing.
@npub1m4n…c2jl I think we spoke about this a while back for a relay. Can't recall who was in that conversation but this is exactly what I was saying would be nice to have for the relay subscription.
Can't you have root access through ADB with the Dev builds? They aren't being mean. The problem is that pretty much everything else gets access too when you leave it open in the UI. It's insecure as hell. Which may not matter. But if it doesn't, then yeah Graphene is a weird choice anyway since their whole point is to give you the most secure Android environment.
Seems like a conditional stimulus. I'll just put this one into sound money like I did the last one.

I don't have anything to give you. I've been here for years and still haven't found a client that works well with Amber and does the basic tasks well. I'm not saying they don't exist somewhere, I'm saying I'm sick of looking. I still have to fuck around with threads not loading, relay issues, general bugs that never get fixed because piling more code into the apps is more important, battery drain like crazy, the list could go on. I've tried the big names, I've tried smaller ones. I think most of us have just been trained to deal with stuff so "everything works fine for me" culture persists. Either I'm using extremely esoteric tooling and these tools aren't built for me, I'm retarded, or people are gaslighting me and themselves. Nostr feels a lot like riding a rocket built out of foam and hot glue most days. For years. I'm just exhausted by it and don't want to try another client. I'm sick of hopping around hoping one will do the basic shit. I built my own and it was asinine to keep up with. I don't want to do that either and it really shows the state of things if that's the best option I have.
I wish I could figure out how people never have issues, but I've been here probably almost 4 years and still struggle to get notes to load and have to jump around. I've fucked with client settings. I'm tired of that. I've tried web clients. They're buggy as hell. My final attempt was a desktop client. Wouldn't connect to Amber.
I just don't have the energy to find the elusive "works for me" so many have found.
The closest I've seen requires me to paste my nsec or use Google, Apple, or some app that's so centralized it's hardly Nostr anyway. Pass.
If it isnt built for Graphene, external signers, and basic privacy tools, it just isnt for me. Cool.
I don't use anything else, just as I said, dip shit.
I'd have better luck listing what isnt.
