What good has 'the public having a say' done? We've had roughly 100 years of 'public education' in more or less its modern form, and what do we have to show for it? **54% of US adults read below a 6th grade level**. And its not getting better; the graduating class of 2025 had only 35% of students capable of meeting the baseline reading level of "proficient" according to NEAP. Math proficiency rates were even lower. What good even is a school that gives illiterate, innumerate kids diplomas?
But at least a rich guy didn't actuality teach kids math and reading so he could assign them Ayn Rand and Murray Rothbard, right?
And how do you think markets even work? Do rich people tell you what flavor jam you eat on your toast, or what kind of shoes you have to wear? The market is how we get consumer choices, government solutions are the one-size-fits-all ones.
Public education is socialist provision of education services, literally the government owning and operating the means of education production. And the results are exactly what would be expected: skyrocketing costs, bureaucratic organizational disfunction, and completely defective output.

The Luddite's point was completely wrong tho. Rather than mechanical looms cutting 90% of textile jobs, their introduction expanded textile jobs several-fold over the next 2 decades. Clothing prices were lowered enough to introduce *fashion* to the middle and lower classes for the first time, resulting in a massive and permanent rise in the demand level.

Like, to hang pictures and stuff? You can hand a lot of art and stuff like that fine with drywall anchors, though for heavier stuff like tvs you need to bolt into the studs.
I don't know much about about residential concrete construction, but brick is again heavily dependant on fairly skilled labor, and is consequently more expensive compared to wood construction. Brick construction also offers less insulation value, so there may be additional tax/regulation factors in different states.

Use drywall as opposed to what, lathe and plaster? I've never lathed and plastered myself, but it looks quite labor intensive compared to slapping drywall in place, and labor is the major cost driver of most parts of home construction, so drywall being so common is probably more to do with cost reduction on building projects as opposed to any difference of the finished materials.

There's a logical fallacy that used to be called "the bad toupee fallacy". It's a kind of bias where you believe the examples you see make up the whole set. Someone may say "toupees are so bad, I can always tell when someone is wearing one." The fallacy is that you only see the bad toupees, the good ones you never notice.
In the 90s professors noticed that students didn't have much experience with spotting toupees (I don't know if toupees fell out of fashion, or if toupee technology has advanced). They now call the fallacy "the bad boob job fallacy".

This is a pretty bad take, tbh. The sociopathy rate is like 2%. To within a rounding error, everyone on every side of any political issue wants to leave a better world for their kids and grandkids. However fiercely we may disagree about what a better world looks like, or how to get there, if your starting assumption is 'the other side doesn't even love their own children', it reads less like a good faith effort to understand the world than a cynical exercise in dehumanizing the outgroup.
The absolute irony is that "they don't even care about their own daughters' lives except as some kind of purity-symbol." Is probably exactly the kind of boomer propagan the warhawks are sending each other on facebook.

The 20 years after the gun buyback had more deaths in Australia (in total and per capita) from 'mass casualty events' than the 20 years preceeding port Arthur. It's true that before the gun buyback, they were mostly (but not exclusively) perpetrated with firearms, and after the buyback they rarely (though not 'never', as the cathedral often claims) were committed with firearms. And it doesn't matter if woke is on the article or not, because 'woke' isn't just some derogatory term for 'far-left', it's actually how that faction of the left self identified, so it's just using their own descriptor, unlike 'right-wing extremist' for moderate conservatives.

I don't know what you mean by "ok". I was not a kirk fan, I don't endorse his statements, I characterized them as "unkind, acerbic, crass, and demeaning", I'm not sure how more forcefully I could express my personal disdain for some of his commentary. As distasteful as I found them though, they were no justification for his cold-blooded murder, or for celebration of his cold-blooded murder.
As for government force, I assume you're referring to pam bondi. As far as I'm aware, she was universally lambasted by all quarters of the right for trying to invoke "hate speech". I am not aware of any appreciable number of folks on the right who want anyone put in jail for their ghoulish tiktoks or social media posts.
As far as "cancel culture" goes, there is a very big difference between dredging up a years old off-color joke someone made on Twitter and starting a social media pile-on to get them fired over it, and people not wanting lunatics who have just publicly announced that they think they would be more than justified in murdering approximately half of the US population walking around the office behind them with access to scissors. I don't begrudge any co-worker of anyone celebrating a political assassination telling HR about that liability issue. Though I do find the website and doxx sleuthing to be very cringe. I get the turnabout is fair play thing, but I'm more of a rise above it guy myself.

While virtually everyone admits Charlie was generally cordial and respectful to folks at his live events, he often had a more acerbic and crass attitude on his podcast. The handful of quotes of his being circulated as particularly damning are either misquotes or taken out of context, however he did make jokes in bad taste and say unkind and even demeaning things about democrats, LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, and affirmative action beneficiaries. I was not a listener to his show, these are just some examples I have heard for myself since his death while investigating the allegation against him.
William's view is that kirk was 'spreading hate', and 'hate' leads to 'hate crimes' e.g., violence against minorities and democrats. Ergo: kirk was 'endangering' people with his mean words; Q.E.D.

>he wouldn't be endangering them
This is nonsensical. You can't seriously argue that one guy making oblique references to some lifestyles being a sin in his religion on a poscast causes real world harm but thousands of people openly advocating for the murder of more or less half the population is innocuous because it's a small percentage of the population. A little bit of consistency would be appreciated.

>neither of us is actually committing violence or even advocating it.
Don't pretend there weren't thousands of 'do jk next'; 'do joe rogan next'; 'do trump next'; '**do his wife and kids next**' posts and videos. One side is gleefully advocating further killing.
And yes, celebrating is also advocating because it's logically incoherent to simultaneously argue that it is bad to do, but it is good when it happens.

This is some weaksauce BS. you obviously didn't click through on any of the links. Just from the couple I spot checked, in one he exaggerates the allegation far beyond what the source itself claims, in another he asserts an allegation as facts when the cited articles makes clear the claim is a disputed he-said-she-said with no hard evidence in either direction.
Coates makes his living off stoking outrage, I guess he earned his paycheck from you today.

I don't have context, but if you squint, the sentence could also mean "I contacted a Nepalese military official on discord, and they confirmed that they had verified the validity of the election."

Better at taking pictures?
Unless you're going about your business like so, you get better shots from your phone than from your fancy dslr in a drawer at home 🤷‍♀️
