At some point I had planned to share a second forum client inplementarion I have to show how different apps can read the nowhere data. And at the same time use the fragment directory as an example of this.
Not sure when this will happen.

My hope is that even a completely non technical person is able to create a site with the simple builder and share a link to their website.
The goal is not just the censorship resistance but also be super easy.
The event page is a good one to start with, if you do have a meetup on this you can create an event page for it. Super easy and all contained in the link.

Nowhere PWA has been updated to add a "saved sites" option.
You can now save a site or forum you want to easily have access to again.
The PWA should update in the background when you use it and then the update should be visible the next time you open it after that.

I had a plan to add this to Nowhere.
Rather than DM I was going to use ephemeral messages.
Serve out unique addresses from an xpub. Then just keep track of how many you have given out so you kno a how high to make the wallet gap limit.
I'm the end I decoded against it as a usefull as that would be my hope is that silent payments will make that redundant for the donation use case. Still having unique addresses is useful if you want to know for certain which user has paid since they were each given a unique address.
I did find one project doing this via DM as you suggest.y issue with dms is both the metadata leakage and that the messages remain on relays.

Let's say you had a forum that was private and at high risk of censorship.
If the forum URL gets leaked then it would be possible for the relays to see all the events that belong to that forum. If the relays your forum was connected to wanted to they would be able to delete all the forum posts related to your forum and delete any new posts that were made. This would censor the forum.
If this was to happen rather than create a new forum members could decide to add a salt to the forum. Adding a salt essentially keeps all the settings of the forum but creates a new space for posts and replies. All users who enter the same salt would see the same posts. The key is without knowing this added salt the relays (or whoever wanted to censor you) would have no way to know you had added a salt and they would have no idea which events on the relays belong to the new salted forum.
So in short it's a way of keeping a forum alive that is being censored.
It could also have other uses such as just having different topics hidden under different salts. Or a community forum where only certain members knew the secret salt to get the the hidden part of the forum.

A message is more nicely formatted as a blog post style. It lets you format the text in markdown.
A drop is just a simple text document. Just for a simple data dump. More like a code editor layout than a blog post. And a drop lets you download the text as a .txt file.

Focussing on privacy for Nowhere means I never know if it's being used or anyone is creating sites so its fun when I see a link pop up.

Nostr the protocol is permissionless.
But every time you sign in to a client you ask for permission.
Every time you post to a relay you ask for permission.
Every time someone requests one of your notes from a relay they are asking permission.
Nostr is censorship resistant because anyone can build on it.
But any one of those builders can censor anything they want (or are "requested") to.

When you sign a post on a Nowhere forum your signing app does not see the plain text content of the message it is signing.
This is because forum posts and replies are encrypted with a shared forum key before being sent to the signer.
This was done to prevent forum posts or replies from being rebroadcast somewhere else outside of the forum context.

Nice. I can see your posts.
The forum was designed with privacy in mind but discoverability could be built on top or you could build a new forum client that was less privacy focussed but allowed for easier discoverability.
@nprofile…jjv7 built a directory where people can share the links to their forums or other sites if they want their pages to be discovered.

You might like to take a look at Nowhere forums.
You can create a forum with a few clocks and set the rules for who can post and what the topics of the forum would be. At the end you get a link to that forum to share.
Forums are private and only visible to people with the link. You can set posting to allow singing in with nostr or just anonymous posters.

That is a good way to filter.
The key difference seems to be with just a WOT filter the torrents you post are still publicly visible on nostr relays vs on the forum they are private and only viewable by other forum members.
Both setups have their use.

If you are playing around with torrents on nostr and want a way to share torrents with a smaller group of people it is possible to enable torrents in your Nowhere forum. The torrent events you publish will only be viewable by members of the forum and the forum will only show torrents from people who posted them to that forum.
That way a small community can curate the content they want to share without just seeing any torrents that get spammed to relays.

I have been thinking a similar thing.
A client for small groups that operates the same way my Nowhere forum does.
From the outside looking in at the data on the relay you have no idea who is posting, what they are saying or how many members there are. But from the inside you see signed messages from the forum members. And there is no way to decrypt that data unless someone shares the link with you.
Seems possible.

Signer support was added a few days ago which was the last big feature that was really missing and earlier today I released a bug fix update.

Yes all the god points where this fails.
A way around it is if sellers ran their own service listening for these ephemeral events. Just something small they could run on their own node or another always on device.
But again more complexity.
And then I have to remember that the average consumer probably does not care about any of these layers of privacy.

Another Great podcast. I have been enjoying listening to the show.
@nprofile…mwz5 some thoughts on your discussion at the end regarding different communication methods and the permanence of trusting events on relays.
One I idea I was playing around with was if order and shipping details were not sent directly from buyer to merchant as a nip-17 dm. Rather they could be sent from the buyer to the marketplace who was running a server as an ephemeral nostr event. Then when the merchant came online to check their sales an ephemeral event was sent from marketplace to them and saved locally on their client.
This way no seller information was ever stored on relays and you did not need to trust them to delete events (only not to store ephemeral events). You are just trusting the marketplace to store and relay the ephemeral events and then delete once they have sent to the merchant. Yes this adds centralisation but that is the tradeoff for the added privacy. Events would still be nip-44 encrypted so unreadable to marketplace servers.
If marketplaces wanted a way to notify a seller of an order they could send them a generic DM that just let them know they had 1 new order.
This enhances backwards privacy if seller keys are ever leaked as buyer details are not still stored on relays. It also reduces the on relay metadata.
Different tradeoffs and perhaps forcing users to use one centralised marketplace server to relay their messages is a dealbreaker but just an idea I had been thinking about.

I think the issue was that I was blocking insecure websoclet connections.
I have updated now to allow localhost connections. Hopefully that fixes things. If not I will investigate further and set up a local bunker to test.

Well nostr is an open protocol so you can build whatever you would like.
My main caution would be putting a lot of thought into the structure of the nostr events as that would be hard to change later and would be a breaking change to your directory if you altered anything.

Did this interaction meaningfully bring me closer to people I care about and/or leave me feeling more connected to other people.
There is real value in being able to share and interact with people online. But once these interactions stop bringing us closer to people and are turned into a psychological weapon against us then it is a problem.
Even on nostr which is so toned down in terms of its psychological bombardment I still often feel is too much.
I think "enough social" is closer to group chats or small communities where interactions foster and grow real relationships rather than just dopamine hits.

I think it’s a good idea. Something I have thought about quite a bit.
I did not want to make an “official” one because to do that would be to host site data which I felt went against the ethos of what I was building.
Maybe I will look at doing one separately.
You could have a specific kind for a nowhere site entry and then have all the data from the link as well as the link itself in an event posted to Nostr. Then a client or website could pull that data and make a nice directory.
It would even then be possible to pull that data into pages that render nowhere sites. For example someone could build an Event nowhere page that looked for similar events and displayed them on the side. You get the discovery of Nostr while still having the immutability and uncensorable nature of the nowhere link itself.
Another good example is the forum. You could have a forum specific client that lets you have other forums you could select from at the top. Maybe even its own search and discovery for forums you would like to join. All in the one site.
There is so much you could build off this. I feel like what I have now are just the starting blocks.

Yes I have found a bug. If one of the relays I use for profiles is down then profiles fail to be fetched from all relays.

Yes they would need to have the nowhere renderer saved locally. That is why it is a forked version of bitchat to include the files needed to render a nowhere site inside the app.
If you want to view a site offline you need to do it from within the Nowhere PWA.

Ahh I see what you are saying as well. The two bags represent there being only two primes. That is the key idea. Its just that adding two bags of cookies would add them and not multiply which is what caused my confusion.
Rather than the two primes being two bags perhaps one prime needs to represent the number of bags and one prime represents the number of cookies in each bag.

For 5 of the site types there is no communication needed and all the data needed to render the site is in the link.
It was clear there was amazing synergy with bitchat here. You could create a website offline with no connection and then send it through the mesh and people would be able to load it fully offline.
You could print out QR codes for events, or fundraisers, or blog posts. Scan them. Load the site. And share the link through bitchat all with no connection.
As a demo of this potential I forked bitchat android to add native support for rendering nowhere links.
You can see in the clip how it detects the link, and then lets you open the site all within the app.

Nothing has changed regarding profile fetching. I think it might be a relay issue with the default relays. I tried with adding primal as a custom relay and profile data was fetched and displayed.
I might have to see if I need to change the default relays for profile data.

I have a friend who purchased a block of land at the top of a mountain to build his dream house with big windows overlooking the view. His plans were consistent rejected for various reasons. One of them was his large windows would let out too much heat and was not climate efficient enough.
After fighting with the council for four years he sold the block and never built.

I think the current way the forum fetches events would also overwhelm a low bandwidth connection. But it's certainly an interesting idea if a forum wasbuilt to be optimized for such a connection.

There are lots of different site types you could build. I tried to stay focussed on the ones that are actively at risk of being censored where this provides real value.
For example one of the simple ideas I had was those restaurant menu QR codes on the table. You could easily make a site type for those with all the data in the QR but it’s not exactly like the censorship complex is going after the menu at your local cafe.

Yes. That is the feature that is most clearly missing and would be great to have.
I attempted to add signer support but it was quite inconsistent however I now think that might have been more to do with the fact that I was testing from an iphone which does not seem to play nice with signers.
