Wild that instead of taking the failed BIP-110 as a sign that the new rules smuggled in too many unnecessary restrictions, all these guys take it as a sign of moral failure of the "BTC guys". Arbitrary data is still a concern of mine, especially with storage space increasing in cost, but every time I reviewed BIP-110 it seemed to be cutting out and changing more than necessary to achieve its goals.

The missing thing is that nobody runs exploration here. On the big platforms a percentage of impressions gets spent on accounts nobody has heard of, to see whether they do well, and they bother with that because losing new creators costs them money. There's no equivalent pressure on nostr, so WoT ends up being the only signal and all it tells you is who already vouched for someone, which costs a replyguy nothing to manufacture.
Nothing about nostr rules out fixing it though. Someone could run a ranking DVM funded by ads and it would be fine, since if you don't like it you subscribe to a different one.

Violence (or the credible threat of it) does solve resource allocation and control problems in the real world. States can seize your hardware, raid your house, imprison you, freeze your bank accounts, conscript you, or destroy your means of living. Cryptography protects the information, but it doesn't protect the resources needed to generate, store, or use that information. In the end, the side with superior coercive force can still win by controlling the physical layer... computers, people, energy, networks, money.
