like specifically
> it's not that big of a deal in Christianity. The books are only said to be divinely inspired, not the verbatim words of God. Not so for the Qur'an
would probably get you in a socially awkward situation with a lot of "bible-based christians"

on the other hand, this:

can describe a lot of people i've met in churches over the years
often exacerbated by people who've reasoned out that a person's willingness to forgive and be gentle with people is actually a weakness and sin caused by their corrupt nature and that true piety would help them overcome it...

"what if my red wan't your red" but it's good and evil but also what if your evil was the good for something you could never hope to fight, only helplessly protest in torment forever to the delight of the laughing children under that thing's total and absolute control...

still unable to unsee the speculation (first encountered in sunday school at age 12, not something on a sketchy forum as an adult) of how the minds of the believers will be changed so that they see things the way God sees them and they will understand and rejoice that the sinners are suffering

this is good
one thing that isn't taught nearly enough (and some religious or reactionary parents might even actively obstruct such learning) is the arbitrariness of the signifier's relationship to the signified and how you need to learn to be able to untangle that to get to higher levels of thinking about anything

but as someone who has not had any bottom surgery this is so relatable for other hardware, housing, career and coding framework decisions i've made over the years

they will make absolutely sure not to engage in the public works that china has been doing though

i internalized that idea of human worth very well and i was so close to killing myself during the years i was unemployed
15 years into a steady job and i am even more certain that that lie is false in every way imaginable
the best people i know are either unemployed or are good despite rather than because of the fact that they get paid for whatever it is they get paid for doing
money is a fucking cancer

and then the bad thing doesn't happen so you can prevent it the next time it threatens to happen, instead of being grossly weakened and drained by the first time it happens that the next time it happens it happens even worse
the republicans were widely scorned and mocked and ridiculed for decades and continue to be but they actually do the thing and they win because the win condition is that the thing gets done
if your win condition is nothing but social approval it will destroy you and it will be for nothing

2025-05-25 04:36:56 UTC

every one of these things happened only because someone wanted more money
the only reason why money is tolerated is because, as a system of representing power, it is a very reliable way to defer widespread societal violence through concentrating power in a way that causes its negotiation to be done at a different level
one wonders how bad it would have to get before it is commonly accepted that it is worse than the alternative

@npub14nf…d9qw when people say "the cruelty is the point" i think about stuff like this and note that for a lot of people it's not so much that they believe that the system for sorting out the worthy from the unworthy is accurate or conductive to some other good
but that they feel it's of utmost importance to have one, any one, at all
