Plume update: the last 6 days
Feed & loading
- Feed now updates in the background, with a "N new notes" pill and scroll position kept when you go back
- Switching Posts/Replies no longer rebuilds the feed
- Faster, more complete loading: shared relay connections, batched profile loading, outbox-relay lookups
- Profile notes load the same way as the main feed
Notifications
- Updates in the background without repeats
- Badge clears once seen and stays cleared after reload
Posting
- GIF picker (nostr.build) in note, mobile and reply boxes
- Polls (NIP-88)
- Client tag on published notes (NIP-89)
- Edit your own notes (kind 1010)
Reading & UI
- Notes and conversations open as a full page, not a pop-up, with easy back navigation
- Note menu: emoji picker, activity details, copy IDs
- Retry buttons for failed quoted notes, images and videos
- Reload button on profiles
Security
- Marketplace and podcast images and audio are limited to public https URLs
That's a whole lot of updates. More to come. Then I'm switching back to working on Chronicle for a bit.

2026-09-25 18:49:34 UTC

Coming soon;
Kind 1111 replies. Whyyyyy did y'all do this?
Polls.
On this day.
Client tags.
That's enough for now.

2026-09-25 12:01:54 UTC

Loooooong time since any updates. Life got what it got. But I'm back to making changes and updates now.
First order of business, fixing issues;
App recomendation not injecting in feed.
App button not working from menu.
Cached feed not loading on log in.
Lists not loading or displaying.
Should be sorted now.
Next order of business, figuring out why profiles of logged in users aren't always loading. They were. They should still be.

View live streams soon on Plume 🥳

2026-01-12 14:04:49 UTC

Yup, that's right. Recommended nostr apps. Because it's not all about one app, it's about the entire ecosystem.
If you've developed an app which should be in the list, let me know, here.

2026-01-08 08:54:22 UTC

Bugs squashed. For now.
Now adding NSFW filters to everywhere I've missed as well as removing NSFW from the discovery carousels.
Then adding more apps to the apps page, then a new apps suggestions feature in the feed.

It's been a quiet week, but getting back on it now.
As of this morning, Plume now supports Ling Form content, NIP23, with share links, comments and reactions.
Unfortunately while doing that I somehow broke public profile searches and the mobile sidebar, so now Plume is more broken than it was earlier.
Still, it'll keep me busy this afternoon, squashing the bugs.

2025-12-29 17:00:38 UTC

Worked hard to improve the public profile view and profile sharing experience.
From content discovery views in the non logged in view you can now track through the public profile, log in process and land on the users page ready to interact.
Also, anyone can share their plume profile link now and show people all the other stuff they do on nostr (more content to come).
There's also now a new links to apps button - it's going to be populated with some cool nostr apps for all sorts of things that people do with #nostr.
Feel free to add recommendations!

2025-12-21 22:33:03 UTC

Small changes - market place updated to include nip 99 and nip 15 listings - all handled the same way at this time.
Market place contact seller button now renders DM interface which includes link to the item in question.
I've also added it to Google and Bing for indexing and linked to it from older Bitcoin focused websites that I still own.

2025-12-18 11:09:32 UTC

GM #nostr - you're all awesome 👌
Just in case you haven't been told already today 😀

2025-12-17 14:59:23 UTC

Should be doing these announcements from the Plume account, really.
Yes, discovery just got a whole load easier on Plume. Even visitors who haven't logged in get to see the kinds of content that are listed on nostr.
Here's the mobile view;

🥳
The mobile rendering is below this:

2025-12-15 18:19:38 UTC

Not bad, the last 24 hours has yielded the following;
The revamped conversation modal now loads, renders and refocuses near instantly, as opposed to 8-10 seconds.
The follow packs now have an individual follow selected button in each pack, rather than having to scroll all the way to the bottom.
Shorts have been redesigned so on desktop they appear in 3 columns, on tablets 2 columns and on mobile, one. There's more to add there, like reactions per video, zaps per video etc. That's for another day.
Now, next is a feed fix. I added bugs the other day. Once that's fixed, I'll be adding new content discovery methods to the main feed.
The idea is to surface some of the other stuff people do, besides posting notes, otherwise this protocol is just ntr amd that's rubbish.

2025-12-14 07:58:46 UTC

Not much in the way of changes the last few days as @nprofile…xr7a is a crippled old man.
Still, Plume now features proper categorised lists. The back ups function has been adjusted to account for these new lists as well.
Up and coming in the next day or two is a fix for the conversation modal and improving the public, not logged in, profile viewer....then....
A big shake up to the feed. We're really all about content discovery with Plume so there's going to be a whole new way to see the things that people do on #nostr - can't wait to make that real.
Happy Sunday everyone 🥳

That was a good fight.

Busy day.
Fixed outbox model so your relays are now pulled and used on log in. In the event you don't have relays set or you're a new user it defaults to the pre set relays.
Fixed websocket connections when switching between tabs - now closes connections when they're no longer needed.
Upgraded the music and podcast tab contents with new styling in keeping with the site.
Upgraded photography, market, music and podcast tabs to progressively render content as it loads, leading to a much cleaner user experience, dramatically cutting delays, usually.
Also updated tabs in profile view to progressively render objects as they load.
Also updated public profile view (the pre log in one) to do the same, and broke it. That's a problem for tomorrow.
Oops. 😂

2025-12-07 15:58:04 UTC

It's true, public profile searches are now a thing on Plume. Just give someone your NIP05 tell them to pop over to plume.website and they don't even have to log in or create an account, they can look you up amd see what you do on this protocol 🥳💪🙏

Not much done yesterday except working on the profile pages - they were rendering notes, then vanishing them, then showing them, then vanishing them, then showing them for a final time.
It was soon sorted, but updates to rendering overall have slowed and are occasionally glitchy.
The long term plan is a relay dedicated to profile pages so that Plume always uses its best resource first.
Now, I've got a whole load of tasks to complete from UI improvements and new features. At least enough work for the next two weeks.

2025-12-03 19:14:07 UTC

And, despite a few minor set backs, it's done. Feed types now render at the top of the feed area, instead of the side menu, leaving that to be all about account management etc.
Much better.
Now, digging in to some profile rendering issues and then, probably, improving the conversation modal view.

2025-12-03 08:48:05 UTC

So yesterday Plume finally got media uploads! 🥳
It's about time, tbf, but until I started to build this I had no clue how many different components go in to making a site like this.
So, next on the roadmap, really, needa to be a UI update. The menu is too huge. We need to separate out certain elements so they make more sense.

2025-12-01 22:34:03 UTC

Nothing massive today, just profile, follow list, mute list and favourite lists back ups for anyone using an plume.website nip05 🥳
Non Plume nip05 users won't see the option on screen.
It'll automatically back up once a week and can be manually backed up when ever you need. It can then be rebroadcast to the network as you need to.
I'll be expanding on this functionality at a later date.
Next on the road map, I think, needs to be media uploads. It's annoying still having to flick back to other apps to upload media.
After that, a major update to the mobile UI, I think. Then perhaps a couple of minor issues with the profile view and adding the public profile view for users who aren't logged in.

2025-11-30 23:23:26 UTC

Managed to get the local cache working which improves perceived loading times dramatically.
Also updated 'add to favourites' in profile views, switching from an earlier local cache version to a proper kind 30000 private list version.
Not bad.
Tomorrow then, it's time to add profile look ups without being logged in, and adding media uploads to standard notes.
Really love how this is coming together 😃🙏

2025-11-30 14:41:15 UTC

Finally fixed the follow packs in Plume. We were searching for the wrong event kind. Lol.
So, next tasks; last state caching for instant rendering on log in.
Fixed favourites lists.
Media uploads for standard notes.
Should have most of that done by tomorrow eve, hopefully.

2025-11-29 16:18:37 UTC

Videos (long and short form) are now enabled on Plume and they're tied in to the profile view successfully, as demonstrated in this image of @nprofile…umjq profile - just click the tab for an overview of each content type.
Of course, it's not lost on me that I still have to go back to another client to upload this screenshot. Media uploads are very much on the roadmap, soon.
There's other things to get done though, like caching last session for instant content on load, which will cut the perceived waiting time from the actual 8 seconds for new content, to something much more tolerable.

2025-11-28 00:45:21 UTC

Added profile mentions in notes today, seems to work fairly well.
Found a way to speed up loading all feeds (except follow packs, they're waiting updates) - all I had to do was stop Plume downloading people's entire profile info and just load what was essential.
My apologies to everyone whose relays I've been hammering.
Fixed yet another 2 utf-8 issues in the zap modal.
Updated feed to load and play video. Yes, I know, again, kind of obvious, I just hadn't considered it important enough yet.
And now, as of today, a new menu item - shorts - displaying kind 34236.
There's work to be done to optimise it and increase loading times, but it's functional.
Over the next few days, depending on how the parties go, I'll be adding long form video and tying both in with users profiles, so profiles render with all the different content types when available.

2025-11-26 23:55:22 UTC

Didn't do everything I set out to do today, but still made positive progress:
Fixed the zapper. That renders properly now.
Updated interactions so notes you've interacted with now highlight that interaction. Zapped posts highlight and zap amount updates on receipt.
Fixed the profiles so that if a user has music or podcasts the appropriate buttons now appear and display their content when pressed.
Fixed issue with profile names not rendering in notes. Bit of an obvious one which has been annoying me.
Was working on adding profile mentions to the compose message boxes but hit Claude limits.
Still, there's always tomorrow. 💜

2025-11-26 16:53:53 UTC

Fixed up the profile view after completely destroying it again today and added zaps from the profile view.
Then broke the zapper thanks to utf-8 gumpf.
Now need to re-add music and podcast tabs to render in profile view when needed.
Also got issues to sort out in follow packs this eve. More utf-8 nonsense, a regular glitch with Claude it seems. And I need to figure out why Plume can't find the follow packs I've created when it goes searching. Maybe I'll hardcode them in.
And I'll sort out the way they stack. Weird misunderstanding from the AI when asking it to render them a particular way, I think. https://image.nostr.build/31f782369336a4ef34f5af4c1087b2f26e0a3fc3472ef052c1c2646495b7baee.jpg

2025-11-25 21:50:28 UTC

Small fix today: sorting out alerts so that they're no longer ugly and not in keeping with the site.
Sometimes it's the simple things which make me most happy.

2025-11-24 19:58:35 UTC

After spending two hours trying to sort out the profile.js cock up from this morning, it's sorted.
Also added a zap button to profiles, which seems pretty obvious in hindsight.
Have now added a simple NSFW filter, which works in the main feed, won't uncover images in the conversation modal, and doesn't work in search results yet.
So plenty to do.

2025-11-24 09:51:32 UTC

So this morning @nprofile…2c9v destroyed the profile.js file. Actual lol.
It'll be fixed soon.

2025-11-22 20:27:35 UTC

Evening #nostr - only minor updates today:
Outbox model *should* be working but it's still glitchy, work to be done.
Added vanity lightning addresses.
Tidied up profile view so when marketplace or photography tabs render they don't overspill the container or get lost on mobile.
Next job is to reduce the number of tabs to two, with the rest concentrated in a single drop down.
Once that's done, I'll look at adding music of video.

2025-11-22 09:31:28 UTC

Gm #nostr
DId some updates yesterday, relay management is almost complete! It's functional but we're moving to the outbox model later today to avoid conflicts with other clients.
Also tidied up the search function a bit, so should get faster soon. It seems to be a common feature on nostr that search struggles with NIP05s. I'm going to try and set it up so that at least when one plume user searches for another it's more reliable. Not sure that reliability can carry over to the rest of nostr though.
Bit more UX Improvments to do today too. Then to take a closer look at the NIP17 system to ensure it's functioning as it should be.

Will do, I saw you commenting on similar lines earlier.

2025-11-21 19:25:03 UTC

Having fun trying to get follow packs I've created to show up on the Plume Follow Pack feed. Any suggestions?

2025-11-20 23:21:40 UTC

Good evening #nostr friends - a few little updates today:
Implemented mute and block lists with moderation.
Users can now view follows/followers/muted/favourites from a new sidebar menu option - favourites is stored locally for now.
Removed an annoying gray bar from the side of the conversation modal.
Automated new user sign up process to automatically follow the Plume npub when choosing people to follow from follow packs.
Restyled follow packs- more loading and looks better but more work to be done.
That was a fun evening. Bit by bit the site is becoming what I'd really like it to be.

2025-11-18 23:58:44 UTC

First post from the new npub 🥳
From now on, updates and info about what's changed on the site should be posted from here.
Keep in mind that plume is a personal project being built to learn and to create the nostr experience I want - be gentle with the criticism.
Or not. Up to you.
Anyway, this evenings updates and fixes:
Fixed quoted notes not rendering in conversation modal.
Fixed profile names not rendering in notes.
Added hashtag search.
Increased relays used - management coming soon.
Added nip05 registration.
