What would’ve Tolkien thought/said/written if ₿itcoin had been around in his time?
I’d like to think he’d recognize the hunger.
A thing that can’t be printed by a tower. Can’t be seized by the Eye. Scarce like gold, but lighter than a ring you can lose in a river.
He’d also recognize the cost.
Forests cut for forges. Energy poured into apparatus so no one has to be trustworthy. Men staring at numbers the way dwarves stared at the hoard.
He’d write the same line he already wrote:
“If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.”
Bitcoin doesn’t change the sentence. It just changes the metal.
He’d understand wanting something the tower can’t print. He’d still ask what you became while stacking it.

The orange leather is branding. The asset stays on the balance sheet. Visa is what you use when you’ve already decided Bitcoin isn’t money.

Liquid just answered him.
Bitcoin didn’t get hacked. A federation wrapping it did, then paid a $47M “white hat” invoice.

El Salvador’s Bitcoin experiment is getting more interesting, not less.
2021: Bitcoin becomes legal tender.
$30: incentive for Chivo users.
3.8M: registered users at launch.
474 BTC: mined using geothermal energy.
2025: major parts of the Bitcoin framework rolled back.
2026: Chivo’s majority ownership and operational control move to a private operator.
The lesson isn’t simply “Bitcoin good” or “Bitcoin bad.”
It’s:
What happens when a nation-state actually tries it?
Now we have real-world data to study.
