Sidecar 1.13 is out, and what a doozy of a release this one is!
A Square Deal for All: you can post a poll from the panel now, and read the whole tally there rather than being handed off somewhere else. Every option with its count and its share, who picked which, and the winner once it closes. Votes turn up in the notifications bell.
A new Industrial Age is upon us: there’s optional proof of work on your posts now. Off until you turn it on, set per account, at 16, 18, 20 or 22 bits. It reports how long it’s been working, and the Settings panel tells you what to expect at each level.
It wasn’t censorship, it was omission: some clients answer a kind 1 note with a kind 1111 comment, and Sidecar was only catching the first level of those threads. Everything underneath was invisible, and you had no way of knowing. Now you get the whole mixed thread, both reply types, the way it was written.
Because following a conversation on Nostr shouldn’t be harder than following one anywhere else.
And to all six Firefox users, you are not forgotten: 1.13 is a signed direct download now, so it installs from about:addons. The listing on addons.mozilla.org is a few versions behind and has been for a while (maybe they went on strike?), so take it from the releases page at sidecar.top instead. It doesn’t receive automatic updates, so you’ll need to do those on your own.

Sidecar 1.11.0 is out, and that was fast! The Chrome Web Store is turning out to be a pretty classy joint after all. 🍸👌
We're up to 12 themes now, plus a new gallery with a live preview of each one before you pick it.
Four are new. Cast Iron is our most based black-on-black look (prompted by @npub1pj0…znjh being a squeaky wheel). Metropolis is our new dark mode art deco style inspired by the 1927 Fritz Lang cinematic masterpiece of the same name. (The original Art Deco theme is now named Industria.) Par Avion is a tribute to the airmail era, when world travelers jetted off to locations unknown. And Werkstätte draws on the Vienna art and design workshop founded in 1903 out of the Secession movement, which thrived until the Great Depression.
Two more things. You can now check your relays: which ones answer, which are gated behind payment or login, and which are holding none of your notes. That last one is what you want to know before dropping a relay, and nothing else tells you. And zaps you send finally read as zaps, with the name and pic of whoever you're zapping.
A signer you keep open all day should be a work of art. Something you enjoy looking at, that adapts to your mood, and becomes an active companion to your Nostr experience.

Sidecar 1.10 is live on the Chrome Web Store! 🍸
Two new themes, Nixie (dark) and Populuxe (light), bringing it to eight. Your bookmarks from other clients, in the panel. Mute lists that cover words and threads, not just people. Balances that animate in each theme's own style.
There are also improvements in PIN-change management, connected-site limits on automatic payments, clipboard invoice detection, and Lightning address resolution from the wallet.

Sidecar 1.8.0 is out right now on Firefox 🦊 and making its way through Chrome 🐢 review.
New: Bauhaus, the latest of three classy light mode themes you’d actually want to use! Each of the six themes now have thier own display typefaces. Also added: An account-switcher right on the signing prompt, and distinct icons for every event kind in Recent activity.
Fixed: Readability and legibility have been improved across all themes. Signing prompts can no longer hide behind a modal. Relay and wallet connections no longer hang until a reload. Exported keys clear themselves from the clipboard.

New in Sidecar 1.7.0 – Quick Start Zapping with Rizful ⚡️
Setting up Lightning in a browser extension used to mean: go install a wallet app, figure out how to create a connection string, copy it, paste it into your signer, hope you didn’t drop a character. You probably gave up last time you tried. Not classy at all.
Sidecar 1.7.0 changes that. When you open the wallet tab without a wallet connected, there’s a new option: enter a one-time code from Rizful, and Sidecar receives a full NWC connection — ready to send, receive, and zap. A Lightning address comes back with it. No separate app, no manual paste, no NWC string to lose. Click one button to update the Lightning address in your bio for incoming zaps.
Already have a wallet? Nothing changes — every other NWC wallet still works the same way. @npub1jlu…p2kq is the on-ramp for everyone else.

🧳 Full vault backup. Export every account and wallet connection into a single password-encrypted file, and restore it on another device. Your whole setup travels with you.
🔏 Smarter backups for single keys too: NIP-49 (ncryptsec) import and export, plus scannable QR codes that hide themselves on a countdown.
🏷 A clearer signing prompt. Events are labeled in plain language, and anything unusual gets a heads-up before you approve it.
🤼 Multi-account safety. On sites where you've signed in with more than one account, every post confirms who's posting. No client can silently sign as the wrong key.
🪎 Spend limits for the wallet: a rolling daily cap on auto-zaps, so a connected site can't drain anything, even one small zap at a time.

Where do your keys actually live when you use Sidecar? 🗝
Sidecar never sends your keys anywhere. They're stored on your device, encrypted, and the key that unlocks them is derived from the PIN you chose. We couldn't recover it if we wanted to, and that's the point: nothing to breach and no one between you and your identity.
The elegant part of that design is also the honest part: it means the responsibility is genuinely yours.
Two small habits make it effortless:
Back up your keys. Export your nsec, an ncryptsec, or a full encrypted vault, and keep it somewhere outside your browser. A backed-up key can rebuild everything, anywhere.
Keep your PIN somewhere private. A password manager or a piece of paper in a safe place. There is no "forgot my PIN" feature, by design.
Self-custody isn't a feature we added. It's the whole idea.
