@nprofile…hwpn you might be interested in the Libertarian Hans Hermann Hoppe's "Democracy - The God That Failed" which discusses this in a more modern context, and makes points that monarchy is a flawed but better system because of alignment of a monarch with long term benefit for a country, rather than the "Teflon shoulders managerialism" short term politics many states suffer from, even though his ultimate best form would be universal sovereignty. Interesting chat. The guy interviewed understands the issues we all have, but appears to be in a team building a #Nostr protocol competitor, to tackle the same issues we all face with centralised services and #privacy
Not so good imho:
1) Nostr already exists as a protocol, it's a shame resources potentially capable of helping build it out further are recreating the wheel (much of the #tech mentioned is already utilised here)
2) It appears to be PoS 💩coin powered from near the end of the interview.
3) Competition is good, but typically at a technology level rather than a first mover protocol level. (An analogy being Token Ring is in the dustbin of history now)

It's a difficult one, as libertarian ideals are very appealing and are good imho to strive towards, but come up against practical limits in the real world with interactions with others, all of whom have different rational, emotional, individual and group responses and allegiances.
Unless one does everything for oneself, you are going to have to make concessions and deals with others for those characteristics. That's politics. Party politics is a messy superset of that, that's easier to dismiss by judging issue by issue on its merits.
Also as the saying goes - "You may not be interested in politics, but politics is interested in you" - know thine enemy and negotiate as appropriate 👍👍

Thoughtful piece, Chris. I do think there is something inherent in the thinking of the political left and right that does affect this, which isn't talked about much in libertarian thinking circles, and that's the culture of where these interactions happen. The right is reactionary to cultural shifts, there is a case for protecting assaults on 'Chesterton's Fence(s)' (agreed rules of behavioir) that ironically allow the left and right to air their views in a civil society.
But it's a difficult needle to thread, once power is taken by either side, abuses occur, the Patriot act for the Right as an example, and the more recent examples on the Left that you gave. The US seems to have had an excellent example so far in its First amendment, but words on a piece of paper only work if the culture agrees so and power truly respects that culture.
No answers, just musings!

I'm on the side of this is a good thing, even though it's a bad thing. There will be systems in the venue, on the way to the venue, perhaps even down to purchasing the tickets for the concert that will be scanning and logging you regardless - to provocatively use it as a potential wakeup call for people that don't think about these things, either through not caring or ignorance - will hopefully bring questions up about 'is this the way we want the world to be?' and from there positive actions to dealing with it.

I'm not a fan of that genre and it sounds like you aren't as well, but it's not much of a stretch to see how this mechanism if allowed for legitimate activity can be extended into other *legally allowed* fields. The Slippery Slope Fallacy will be less fallacy if the processors are allowed to behave in this manner imho 👍
Furthermore, I'd bet that Epstein had services facilitated by them, where's the 'reputational risk' argument by them here?
