Been thinking that even promoting a gimmick leads to walls because everyone's so jaded. Makes me think of promoting things in the opposite direction "it's an app for groups, it works with other apps in this space." Lead with the most boring framings possible, at least _that's_ different, because everyone's already drained of dopmine driven marketing and features.

Idunno. Rolling a boulder up a hill for eternity can also be fun. Think that's the same audience that appreciates kind 1 nostr. It's its own audience filtering mechanism, so I don't really care who joins there, those that need it will come. Everything else on nostr is infrastructure that can appeal to everyone else.

Yes! I think of tendrl as my workbench. A lot of the reading and searching, and linking functionality is there. Having a nice manual writing experience is a different beast that I'm still trying to figure out 🙂

I think it's important to call out these points of disinteroperability, so we can find ways to work with each other. I also think it's important and necessary to recognize that all developers have the capacity to do what they want.
The most one can do is form coalitions with other developers and relay operators around standards.
A Buzz ecosystem at worst interoperability is a 1 relay 1 client space that bother's no one, with free exit afforded by the mechanics of having an npub.
I'm starting to understand that the capacity for allow individuals to refuse coordination is what makes nostr strong because there's no authority mandating a single frame, which is problematic when an organization with a lot of power and influence comes in an forces a change on the whole protocol that everyone must conform to.
That's the playbook for how protocols die, when a single authority enters the space (embrace) forces change through carrying influence (extend) and eventually moves the protocol to only use proprietary technology to work with everything else (extinguish).
@nprofile…7nrg is also working on making buzz more general-nostr friendly🙏so that's another route for interop.

This particular chapter actually isn't something to break into pieces and analyze. It's a giant, dense ball of flowing words clustering together at different speeds where the experience of engaging with the text opens up into the argument. I know their work resists being summarized, and out of context highlights mean just about nothing to anyone else reading it. And yet, I still do. For a multitude of reasons - from the epistemics and metaphysics of what it points to, to the performance of highlighting obtuse phrases, to the insanity of the prose itself.

We might not generally think about it this way, but simple mathematics and language became commoditized. They were never monolithic, and took centuries to standardize and be broadly accessible. When those skills became so widely taught and used, that just meant that everyone is free to not only get more done, but play games, however useless, and experiment at the edges to see where they break.
That's why my ethos for my n=~1 software development projects users is to experiment around with how cursed I can make it while still remaining useful and functional to them (mostly me) 😁🧟
when it gets time to be serious, that's where I'd hope i could retract from the edges, see where I'm comfortable, if I learned anything new and build something in that new space with confidence.

Some points on how i'm mapping nostr and how I orient my work around:
My perception is that nostr enables the full spectrum of interaction. You can have no gatekeeping at the cost of the worst potentials for digital social interaction, the capability of having the most curated social interaction, and everything in between. The free association and costless exit across that spectrum almost maps directly to the irl social environments we've historically been a part of, minus the constraints of distance and travel time.
At the most open nostr - something Amethyst's global approximates, no constraints, full network, outbox, kind 1 - there are no guarantees, and it will always be an average of everything that happens at smaller scales. Trying to force any behavior here is like trying to force an "average" behavior on the physical world.
The smaller communities is where we can focus on for change, even in the developer-nostr space (develop with the people you want to associate with).
Enabling the most differentiation will necessarily lead to the most wide variety of content at the global level. Analagous to how a wide proliferation of local tribes makes global culture widely differentiated, vs "globalization" as an averaging/smoothing of cultures on the world through the scaling of efficiency and production.
All centralization is mass production and ease of transmission/communication - anything with an identity is this average behavior.
Pure & flat decentralization is still an average, mandated "decentralization" is just centralized power imposed externally. But communities with walls to guard them can develop their own identities outside of mass appeal.
So we can have centralization at the smallest relay scale, and larger. Just like any "organic" system has cells, tissues, organs, organisms, ecosystems, and the transport of needed information/resources between them. You can get some of this behavior on other platforms, but they're always mediated by a larger authority, on their terms. Which means platforms are always imposing an average and will always have the final say on what happens, socially and technically. That centralizes not only what is possible, but it what is even "thinkable".

I think wide open nostr is something you should choose to enter yourself, rather than at the reccomendation of someone else.
Clients focusing on smaller communities (ironically) don't have the network effects to earn a download. There's really nothing to say against this argument, since even asking for Signal is a nonstarter 🙃
