So for reasons entirely, utterly beyond my control I guess I have to start a Signal account entirely from scratch.

Oh, great... one thing I did seemingly lose: My Signal chat history 🙄 I guess it's a kind of punishment for preferring desktop over mobile...
There's just no way to transfer a Signal account from desktop to mobile, only from mobile to other mobile - you can't back up from desktop either & relinking back to the original Signal app on my previous phone, which I still have, nukes everything since I stopped using it, as if I was never on desktop at all.
