I thought it was interesting that the General told us / confirmed what every government wants to do with AI, double confirming the need for local AI models running on local hardware. Freedom fighters need this ASAP. #ImagineIf

There's a big difference between AOSP and Google's Android.

2026-10-04 00:09:53 UTC

Android isn't Google's locked-down OS.
AOSP, the Android Open Source Project, is the open core. Nearly every Android ships from it:
Google's Pixels. Samsung's One UI. Amazon's Fire OS, which ships with zero Google apps. Xiaomi. OnePlus. LineageOS. GrapheneOS.
So what makes Android feel like Google? GMS. Google Mobile Services: the Play Store, Play Services, and the proprietary APIs underneath, push notifications, location, in-app billing. None of that lives in AOSP. It's licensed separately, and that's how Google keeps its grip.
Strip GMS out and Android still runs fine. GrapheneOS ships that way: no Google services baked in, and if you want Google apps they're sandboxed and optional. CalyxOS does it with microG. Amazon dropped GMS wholesale years ago.
Since 2025 Google develops Android in private branches and pushes source to AOSP only at release. The code is still open when it lands, but the days of watching Android get built in public are over though.

dare i say, we have too many tools here on nostr? 🤣
let me explain.
we have a lot of CFS here on nostr! (Cool Fucking Shit)
as soon as i saw Vitor's note below, i said to myself, shit, i completely forgot about using The Nostr Observer.
when Vitor announced it, i tested it for a few days and it was amazing! essentially, it uses AI to summarize the content from your WoT, giving you a 'newspaper' of content to read so that you don't easily miss TGS (The Good Stuff) from the nostr.
we have so much CFS being built on nostr, that it's hard to stay focused and stay up to date with everything.
anyways, i think im going to set up The Nostr Observer as a daily cronjob on my system. perhaps even a system notification too, telling me that the day's article is ready to be read.

Hmm. So choosing a theme doesn't point at their event. It copies the theme config (colors/ fonts/background tags etc) into a brand new event with your pubkey and your signature. That part is by design: other clients find your active theme by querying kind 16767 with your pubkey. It has to be yours to work. And I guess if you use another person's theme they could rug you LMAO. But I bet we could change this somewhat in the verbiage. Thought's @nprofile…73sf? Using theme name by author?

Good morning and pura vida, Nostr! Breaking user space is bad, but so is ignoring it too. We need to remember a few simple truths. No client is perfect. No developer is perfect. No one implementation is the path forward. We're in the stage of try everything and see what works and what sticks. This will be bumpy. Whoever implements a feature and gains the most adoption, becomes the standard, and because of this simple rule paired with the permissionless nature of a protocol, people will do whatever they want. This makes it hard, but it doesn't make it wrong. It just means that more work is needed. It just means more communication is needed. It just means that more collaboration is needed. Work hard. 💜🫂🤙🏻

listening to user feedback is paramount to nostr's success. we have the ability to talk to developers here. you cannot talk to them on legacy social media platforms. and even if you did, they wouldn't listen. here, we're small enough that we can work together to build the decentralized social future.
and now thanks to AI, users can even submit detailed issues with their bugs, feature requests, etc. they can even submit PRs. even if you don't accept the PR, you can take it as a sign of a feature that is in demand, because a user spent their time and tokens on it. take that as even more valuable feedback and then implement the feature in your own way if you so desire. and if you don't desire, that's fine too. we can build everything. this includes maintained forked.

Good morning and pura vida, Nostr!
Your nsec is your identity, your followers, notes, zaps, all signed by one key. So keep it out of harm's way:
📱 Remote signer on your phone (Amber, Clave, etc.): apps request, you approve with a fingerprint or PIN, your key never leaves the app.
💻 Signing extension on desktop (Ditto, Alby, etc.): sites request, the extension signs, your key never touches a web page.
🔒 Never paste your nsec anywhere. Not even apps that I promote or work on. Always assume that these could leak your keys at some point in the future.
Your identity should require your thumb, face, a PIN, some manual intervention, etc. Keeping your keys safe is paramount.
Stay vigilant!
