Maybe, for once, my pessimism outweighs my conspiratorial streak, but I’m fairly convinced that the sudden alarm over an AI takeover—and the calls from the very same industry giants (Anthropic, OpenAI, and X) to slow down the race toward the technological singularity—has far more to do with a justified, albeit belated, fear of the uncontrollable forces they’ve glimpsed inside their frontier models than with any economic or corporate rationale.

Not a justification for the bubble bursting. Not an attempt to hide the physical, hardware, or energy bottlenecks constraining their expansion. And not some Machiavellian scheme of regulatory capture.

Since time immemorial, Frankensteins and sorcerer’s apprentices have lost control of the creatures—or forces—they summoned.
And the consequences are paid by everybody.
