Yes, I’ve run into this problem many times lately, not only with the Pythagoreans, but also with others I’ve been looking into like the early Buddhists, Mycenaeans and Chaldeans. It’s hard to say what they really did and didn’t know. The history we know of is incomplete, and oftentimes intentionally distorted.

Anyway, this and other sequences are incredibly powerful. It reminds me of the ‘geometry’ of sounds, the general mathematics of vibrating systems, and inharmonic ratios of real objects. I got obsessed with the 432Hz tuning before but now I’m equally fascinated by the inharmonic nature of percussive sounds.
