They definitely knew phi, the ratio was in their pentagram and they specifically called 5 the number of completion. They must have been privy to more than we think.
I think the sequence itself was first explicitly seen in writing in India but Pythagorean teachings were deliberately oral, so it's hard to say they weren't aware of it, maybe not in its entirety. I'm not incredibly well versed on their work either, I believe it was Iamblichus who said Hippasus was drowned for revealing some of their secrets.
Im also not sure Fibonacci understood the metaphysical meaning of the sequence or that it is how being comes about.
