“Lead us not into temptation” is the wisdom not to even go near where appetite overrides virtue. Without trying to oversimplify Plato, whether a man can control his lust or not is the most defining trait of virtue. It is an ever present temptation.
The only thing that works and makes sense is to combat the temptation is to put God first every time. Otherwise appetite will eventually give way to lust.
