i believe Andrew Yang said something about "i don't believe in state-based wealth tax" to your point.
however, i could make a case for a California wealth tax on the coast for the cool weather in California. call it the "public AC bill". that is something they can definitely monetize.
income tax at least doesn't make sense any more if AI replace human workers...
the AI workers would be taxed at corporate tax rates, if they are part of a corp...
the last few human workers would be paying progressive income taxes while robots working for "Free" for companies and their shareholders who are just living off borrowing against their unrealized gains...
