I hate video games that are too easy.
Darkest Dungeon is one of my all-time favorites:
Losing your best heroes, watching a run collapse, starting the whole slog over from scratch — that wasn't bad design. Game over and full restart was the feature, not the bug.
And it auto-saves constantly. You can't reload, can't cheat fate, can't undo the mistake that just cost you three weeks of progress. Failure is locked in.
Is it even a game if 9/10 times you aren't frustrated and disappointed?
Is finishing worth anything if it didn't reset you to the beginning hundreds of times first?
When failure is permanent, victory means something.
