P sure it is illegal not to have a birth certificate. Not sure if you care about the legality, but if your child ever needed emergency services, then a hospital social worker would very much care. A realID (drivers license) would probably need an SSN in many states. Passport would probably be workable. Beyond that if your child ever wanted to get a job, then an SSN is p much mandatory. Proving you exist in order to get a birth cert (if your child ever decided for itself) gets incredibly harder as they age. They would face a court case and I'm not sure what the burden of proof would be. So beyond a bible, keep excellent records with affidavits from all birth attendants, get some other adults present if you weren't planning that already. Take pictures at all ages and protect this information as you would your private keys.
