Hiking Ptarmigan Ridge part 3. Some wildflowers are still blooming even at this late date: subalpine monkeyflower (Erythranthe caespitosa, photo 1) and purple monkeyflower (Erythranthe lewisii; syn. Mimulus lewisii). The latter is named after Merriwether Lewis of Lewis and Clark fame. The growing season is very short here--bear in mind that this ground is covered in snow until late July or even August! #nativeplants #hiking #PNW #getoutside
