The internet most people know today is just the end result of AOL and CompuServe. They were fooled into thinking AOL and CompuServe had disappeared and that the real internet had won. In reality, they just built more advanced gated communities. Anyone who was online before 2001, or used bulletin board systems, knows what the real internet was like.
