I work in the mountains and am often caught up in tailbacks on the way home...generally of km long.
Whenever this happens, I turn on the radio (we have some community stations) and after 5mins or so, people start to turn their engines off and start to hang out along the highway.
Amongst the people on the way home will be more than few outdoor emergency care techs, and road accidents generally happen around mid evening.
Mountain communities are small too, so while the tourists get bothered about their schedule, the rest of us hope and quiety pray that its not too bad. It often is though, since it's a very fast highway and people are always going over the limit. One of my
I've on occasion chatted to firefighters from one of the stations on the highway, so have always been aware of the work you guys do, and how difficult it is.
Anyhow - thanks for doing what you do. We all appreciate it, and certainly in my neck of the woods, very many lives have been saved by you guys in these incidents. I know that volunteers often don't have access to to support that full timers do, so do pop into a church if you can, and chat to one of the ministers.
