Monero is not on exchanges because it can’t be tracked.
Tracking senders and receivers is a requirement for VASPs (see Travel Rule): “to share and hold specific customer information with recipient institutions when performing transactions involving virtual assets.”
KYC Bitcoin, IS the real trojan horse.
KYC-free bitcoin or bitcoin lightning is preferred.

Locally, off-grid, no credits or anything like that.
I mean it’s not perfect but it’s a nice self-hosted tool.

Remember the movie “Takedown”? an imaginary tale based on Kevin Mitnick’s… well, takedown.
The recent wave of hacks that have been going on (Thorchain, Haveno, Retoswap) reminded me of a scene where the asian guy spends all of his time “in the zone” getting ready to catch Mitnick, while Mitnick is getting comfortable and sloppy. Spoiler alert: Kevin ends up getting caught by the asian guy (Tsutomu Shimomura) and his team.

Yeah I mean cashu means going back to central banking again… with cashu you need to trust the 3rd party (mint) and they could: collect IPs, correlate deposits and withdrawals… Plus what a bank does: freeze redemption, run fractional reserves, censor users, etc.

If yes, use on-chain Bitcoin.

* self-custody
* auditability
* permanence
But that same permanence also means:
your social interactions and payment history may be publicly traceable forever.
Trying to understand the appeal of Cashu over Monero.
If the end result is ecash issued by a MINT (wtf) and redeemable for Lightning sats, isn’t that introducing custodial trust back into the system?
What advantages make that tradeoff worth it for people?

Mexican here. TL;DR: authorities don’t give a fuck because they rather steal the money for themselves.

A company or product that sells Bitcoin but asks for your ID is risky because they will be able to tie every single transaction back to you.
Only non-KYC Bitcoin is should be acceptable for personal transactions.

I had forgotten about this cool fact:
In Mexico, there’s a community who invented their own coin called the Túmin as an attempt to fight inflation.
It was created by the people to support merchants and vendors.
Each Tumin is backed by a product or service.
Then the central bank tried to sue them (no surprises there), but it failed.
It’s still being used to this day.
They should use #bitcoin and/or #monero too, IMO.

Test number 2 completed: P2P purchase using Haveno RetoSwap, this time was crypto-to-crypto rather than fiat-to-crypto.
It took around 25-30 min for the whole process (start to end), and there wasn’t any interaction with the seller, everything was automated and it went smoothly.
It takes all that time because it needs to wait for the 10 confirmations to complete, then you can send the payment.
In contrast, the fiat-to-crypto exchange took around 1.5hrs, mainly because it was a Cardless Cash payment and messaged with the seller. I think.
A “low time preference” mentality is key to have patience and go through the whole process. (BTC-LN swaps have spoiled me).

The accent and the way each one translates the source material, from the spanish listener perspective, makes the difference.
I like the one from México best because it’s more “neutral” , in audiobooks, movies, tv shows and even video games.
