Little sneak peak at the web app I'm putting together to deliver my 'rewards' to the sponsors for Saturday's Ride for Cancer. > $25 CA gets you an original exclusive autumn themed Drum 'n' Bass mix #dnb. > $50 gets you that mix + a 45 minute Berlin rave mix featuring some of my favourite #techno of late.
It's not too late to contribute:

I was stoked to stand up last night introduce a room full of coders to the idea of using Nostr for simple things rather than writing complicated new backend infra.
@npub18am…p424 Curious if there's a reason Ditto doesn't support DMs? Was that a decision or are you just waiting for someone to contribute it?

I'm down with being European as long as we don't lose the progress we've made on banning smoking. I've been to Paris and I love the city but their patios are like hanging out in 1985.

(There's a surprise at the bottom)
It's been a couple of years since I've driven my bike in the Ride for Cancer. I took a year off due to a bike theft and probably some other reasons like the fear of another 50km ride on a stone hard seat that seems optimized for speed over comfort.
This year is the final Ride for Cancer in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It's been a hugely successful campaign raising money for cancer treatment over the years. The organization is moving on to some other strategies and celebrating with one final ride -- and I decided to enter it again.
I want to personally thank Michael Parsons for involving me in this program. He's the namesake of Mikey's Bikers, my team, and also a great friend. I honestly wasn't sure I'd make it the first year and every subsequent year tested my resolve. He helped push me to ride and intimidated me into coming up with more money.
I also want to thank my relatives, colleagues, friends and followers, and also to ask one last time for your support. I am getting a late start to my campaign this year and I'd really appreciate any small amount you can contribute to get me toward my goal.
This year I am also bringing something else to the table:
I am putting together 2 highly curated, 45 min live studio-recorded mixes and I will be sending downloadable EXCLUSIVE copies to my donors over $25 and $50. Maybe you don't even like electronic music -- that's fine -- it's still a collectors item that only my donors will have for the rest of their days.
Each mix will feature original AI-free cover artwork by a local Nova Scotia artists.
Here are the details:
$25+ Donations: Autumn Mellow
A rare mix of some of my favorite new ambient, melodic and earthy Drum 'n' Bass tracks. This one will weave in and out of mellow, positive vibes. It will feature vocalists as well as hard breaks and liquid beats. This one will be a journey for the heart and the head nod, best enjoyed with headphones and a glass of wine.
$50+ Donations: 50 Miles and Bouncing
Inspired by my recent techno and dance sets at venues here in the city and on Twitch, this mix will blow your speakers open with 140-155bpm high energy bouncy bass that will have you rocking out in your car, living room or gym. Featuring recent tracks procured from some of my favourite international techno labels and a even a few you may never hear anywhere else. (And I'll throw in "Autumn Mellow" too!)
Thank you again. It's been a great ride. ❤
Finally, I'd like to dedicate this year's race to Mark Fraser, my brother in law, who succumbed to cancer just a few weeks ago. I'll be thinking about him and those who loved him.

Like everyone else complaining on Reddit, I just hit my own Claude session limits for the first time in ... I don't know if I've ever hit my limits doing normal single-agent work before. Whatever Anthropic is doing, it's worse. Much worse.
2 bands that were ahead of their time in the 90s -- and I mean *way* ahead of their time. Asian Dub Foundation and Baxter.

As a public service, I made a Chrome extension which ensures that Google Maps displays the legal name for certain Canadian lakes, should they ever be erroneously labeled for Canadians. (We took care of the Gulf of Mexico while we were in there). Hope it helps.

I have just signed an executive order renaming Donald Trump to "Donald Dump", and it is equally as binding and meaningful as his executive orders with regard to unilaterally renaming international waterways.
See you at Lake Ontario this fall, now and until the Huron suggest otherwise.

It's a rare folk singer that can make me hate my life and wonder if I've had folk music wrong this whole time. She's draining the life out of "Angel from Montgomery" as it writhes and contorts percersely over her nasal passages.
Oof. What are those insects that sound like a buzzing powerline -- super loud and annoying. Surely they have a predator.

Something I've always wanted to do: I tried to recreate the gravity drive from Event Horizon as an entirely dynamic system. I added some of my own hellish flourishes.
Let me know what you think.

I would love to see a boycott of Adobe. They've been abusing creative industries for years and they get away with it because management / art directors continue to spend money on the only product line they're familiar with. Competing products do exist (looking at you, Affinity). They're the original pioneers of enshitification.

You save money by paying the annual license fee so the idea is to prevent people from gaming that system by buying the annual license and then cancelling it every month to try and exploit the same discount on a monthly basis. It's shitty, and Adobe is perfectly ok with being shitty.
It is both as Newfoundland is a part of Atlantic Canada.
I am really excited to announce that my father, Gordon Wright, after spending 5+ years in the process of researching, writing, and editing, has finally published his first novel.
It's called Stones Cast for Life and it's a historical family drama that tells the story of a young school teacher starting her career and enduring the hardships of life in a Newfoundland outport in the 1920s. My father is a proud, native Newfoundlander and he spent long hours researching the this story at The Rooms historical archive in St. John's.
Would love for you to share it if you know someone who might be interested. It's available in both ebook and paperback editions from Amazon at the moment with more vendors to follow in the coming months. More info here:

I don't doubt this for a second. Just like those who want data centers obfuscate, hide and downplay its impacts, those who don't want one exaggerate and lie about those same impacts. We weaponize perspective. Truth is out of style.

Working in Charlottetown, PEI today. I gravitated toward the nice cafe downtown, the one with excellent food and well-dressed people. It didn't take long to notice I was the only one there with a laptop so I did a little research and the consensus seemed to be that the local library was the place for the nomadic laptop worker set. I had doubted it when someone told me that earlier.
So I wound up here at the library and I am sorry I ever doubted it. Clean, bright, beautiful atmosphere, low noise aside from the distant sound of conversation easily overcome by headphones. The wi-fi is free, fast and reliable, and there's a cafe in the middle that doesn't know the difference between a cortado and a flat white so they make you really big cortados.
Does this post show up as zappable?
Hey Nostr. So I just set up my ability to get zapped (I hope). Could anyone spare a zap to help me test it? ⚡ I'd be happy to zap back.
Using Matt Pocock's 'teach' skill which is pretty great. Takes any topic, researches and builds a web interface to teach you the subject complete with exercises and aims to hit your learning goals.

Today's problem: Published my Dad's first novel on Amazon yesterday and the ebook showed up fine but I'm frustrated that despite saying it's "live" his paperback is not appearing in any regions. #kdp #amazon

No. As I understand it the relays are specifically purpose built for Buzz. You have to download and install your own copy of their relay server.
My AI agent just said to me, while assessing my approach to a problem: "You vaccinated one twin and let the other lick the doorknob."
🤣 I almost spit out my coffee.
I might need more human contact.
The onboarding gives you a buzz-owned relay by default and (according to one of their bots) all communication I type inside slack is plaintext visible to the relay owner. So that's a little disconcerting for enterprise use.
As I understand it you can download and run your own private (but Buzz-specific) relay server. Not sure if the source is open or not.
The pyramids, the Dom Cathedral, these monuments to ancient achievement in architecture have absolutely nothing on this elaborate and underappreciated stage set from Tomorrowland 2026 music festival.
