I know why clients don’t have alt attributes. In the end, it depends on whether users add them when they upload something, and whether they make them useful. Most people don’t. That’s why I haven’t added them so far either. On LinkedIn, for example, maybe one out of every 20 or 30 posts in the feed has alt text, and even that’s usually poorly written.
My point is more that no matter how accessible you make your app, it won’t bring you any users because of that.
