Probably because the term freedom tech is vague and meaningless which makes it easy for any scammer to claim what they are selling is "freedom tech"
I don't care if it's freedom tech, is it useful? What purpose does it serve? How does it improve my life or anyone else?
Calling things "freedom tech" without explaining what they are or what they do makes it seem untrustworthy

If a random guy told you you had to pay him nearly half your money you made or else he would lock you up in his basement. In return for the money he will do a shitty job of patching the road in front of your place & also rile up your neighbors against you + put up surveillance cameras to watch you would that be OK?
