Public service announcement:
**Get your sats on-chain.**
Thank you for reading. Have a nice day.
**Your money shouldn't be work. Your money should be where you store your work.**
I am not going to babysit my cash all day to see if it gets hacked or rugged. Fuck that noise, man. And I'm sick of the mantra that it's totally okay to keep small bits of money in that wallet but not more than that cuz it might disappear. #wearesoearly. Small amounts of money _also_ shouldn't disappear.
I am not going to put more of my money someplace that it is likely to disappear from. That is why I am trying to get out of the banking system, ffs. This is supposed to be the place I can put it, that it _won't_ disappear from!
I've been at the forefront of the Lightning, Cashu, Nutzap, whatthefuckevah experiments for 4 years, and I am tired, boss.
Wow, integrating Brainstorm and PoW into the trust filter is a game-changer.
Genuinely good work. Thanks, guys.
If you can use AI to build video games, that makes it military-grade.
They aren't pausing the building. They're pausing the releases.
I totally ♥️ @npub1lsm…dy8z
#nevent1q…xvqa
Someone got me to finally look at the Monero price chart and now I feel more late than early. 😂
I always feel early, but I am always actually late.
The longer I am here, the more I realize that my main dev talent is recognizing data structures and workflows that will work in a fundamentally superior way to whatever is Today's Hot Thang, despite the fact that hardly anyone agrees with me and everyone is telling me I am a stupid loser who can't admit that I am just stupid and a loser and your shit don't even work LOL, and just hacking away at implementations for years until everyone else can see what I saw at the beginning.
I sometimes feel a bit like Noah building his boat.
A very very small boat.
But a boat.
In the desert.
Give me two years.
The rain. It is coming.
But I sometimes wonder, is it that I can see the solution, or is it that I have some deep, inner confidence that I can always find a way through, if I keep hacking away for long enough and find enough frens to help? If we all just hack away, together, for long enough...
I've never not gotten through.
I wonder.

...that #cordn and #outbox bring Nostr closest to a P2P protocol so far. They both relegate relays to hops, rather than hubs.
Y'all don't seem to care if I am wearing makeup and am all gussied up, or not. Your favorite pics are me looking like I just got done vacuum-cleaning the floors.
I can't decide if this is good or bad.
Projects I am currently involved in:
#cordn
This is MLs for Nostr that is actually starting to actually work. Ecosystem is growing and refining. High-security messaging for groups, including groups of 2 (i.e. DMs).
#imwald
My web app and my Android app. They read and write any event and are great for power users and testers, or if you are just looking for someplace to publish an event from and nothing else works. Integrated with Brainstorm and Mercury servers.
#alexandria
These publication viewers are looking a bit neglected, but a big revamp is underway. A sort of Project Gutenberg, OpenLibrary, Wikipedia, and Goodreads mashup. Mercury and Brainstorm integration.
#decentnewsroom
Very elegant solution for e-magazines, including my own blog.
https://blog.imwald.eu
#brainstorm
Our big data migration has been honored with indexing on Brainstorm! 🤩
Very stoked about that and about the other relays that imported our data dump.
#mercury
Mercury is my instance of the Elixir relay that MichaelJ is building. We're iterating back and forth, but the publications, wiki pages, and library cards are already running off my prototype version. That's the http API my clients use.
@nprofile…u6fg already came up with a note engine like that. That's what I copied. We can show anything. There's no excuse to hide events in daily-driver clients, anymore. He solved that problem very simply and elegantly. Nostr clients can now be future-compliant, as well as backward-compliant.
This is especially interesting for threads below OPs. If someone posts something, they want to see everyone who interacted with it, with the standard-kind interactions featured most prominently.
In my threads, I reveal stuff like people quoting the event, bookmarking the event, responding to the event with a voice reply, reacting, zapping, highlighting, etc. Some directly on the OP, some behind an accordion at the bottom, and some prominently in the middle. That's why my client feels so "alive" and other clients feel dedder and dedder.
Ladies, let us not leave the impression that we are too soft in the head to tolerate someone posting news articles, along with his own editorial commentary.
Feel free to post your own news, along with your own commentary.
What frustrates me most about Nostr is how much some **developers just don't care about what kinds content creators actually publish**.
Our stuff drops off the timelines, and people's threads and feeds get thinner and thinner, but the devs don't respond by including the new kinds because they're only here to kind-1-shout-out at their fan club once per day or week or month, and then they go back to talking to their agents and collecting their monies.
Those devs aren't scrolling the feed or responding in threads, my frens. They don't notice that our stuff disappears and -- what is more -- they don't give a damn.
Lightning and Monero make sense for tips (and zaps), as they're both relatively private. On-chain Bitcoin zaps just don't really make sense to me, as it's a public ledger, and tipping is fiddly because silent payments aren't in widespread use. Zaps, in general, just don't really make sense to me because I tip too much money to want anyone to keep track of it and people microzapping me should just keep the change.
This is just where I am at right now.
Is Primal in maintenance mode? That whole project got weirdly quiet.
It's funny how the society went from everyone being obsessed with sex to everyone being indifferent to it.
OpenAI delaying IPO until 2027.
Like I been saying. May the best money win.
#nevent1q…jhue
(The best money better be Bitcoin because that's the only one I have more of than homeopathic amounts and I don't want to be both old and poor. Getting old is hard enough, fr fr no cap.)
Man, I have been missing attending Mass at my village church. Been at Mass all over the place, all summer.
That is so nice. 🤩
The clickbait title isn't just clickbait.

It's always DNS.
Fixed it.
Happy New Year to all who celebrate. 🍯
(Well, to everyone. Everyone gets to be happy. Let's not be stingy about happiness. Free happiness for all.)
When you see a photo of Jared Kushner and you are torn between admiring how handsome he is and being creeped out by that cold expression.
I always think he would be perfectly cast as an SS officer.

You can use cake 🍰 to swap between Monero and Lightning.
#nevent1q…2ene
It's funny how fast I mentally adjusted to the end of asset price inflation.
Bitcoin, gold, real estate, shares, savings account... 10% p.a. is pretty good, on average.
Is it paranoid for me to move most of my "spending" sats from my Phoenix Lightning wallet to my Electrum on-chain wallet? It's not just that I worry that Lightning is gonna get hacked next, but that I worry that the swaps will get taken offline in a panic, and I'll end up stuck in Lightning.
This doesn't really seem rational, as I'd probably have to move them back onto Lightning to spend them, but oh well.
In other news, added a silent payment wallet to my payment targets, which doesn't help much because hardly any Bitcoin wallets support silent payments. 🤣
I'm tired, boss.
Have begun hourly polling some curated relays for publications. Those publications will be added to our canonical database and be reachable over our RESTful API and clients and over the websocket at wss://mercury-relay.imwald.eu. The database remains read-only.
Yes, it's another fun-with-distributed-data-storage day.
About messaging on Nostr:
I have implemented kinds 24, 4, 14, and #cordn and I only have any interaction within the last 15 days on Cordn. And that was very sparse.
My Telegram, Slack, and Signal are always busy with Nostr talk.
I got a logistics management job!
Sooo happy, fr. Managed to finally escape the coding mines and get back to real industry, doing what I am certified to do.

This software development project was brought to you by an extensive paid vacation and the unemployment office. 🤭
You were this many days old when you realized that there are over 1000 unique npubs accessing wss://theforest.nostr1.com at this very moment.
Because they know where the humans are.
Okay, @npub1l5s…gx9z is now also on wss://nostr.xmr.rocks relay. @npub1m4n…c2jl was already on there. Has been quite reliable and non-spammy.

The more crazy AI stuff happens, the more I enjoy reading, writing, testing, and auditing software.
My professional advancement as a systems analyst and tester has always suffered from an acute lack of psychopathic hackers, but now there are so many of them, and they don't need to sleep, eat, or breathe.
Feels like I have been shadowboxing for 25 years, and someone else has finally stepped into the ring.

Imagine that you are working on critical software, and you don't use AI to audit your code.

I know that this isn't the topic du jour, but I built a thing. You can now rate the publications.

My physical gold hasn't been hacked yet. We'll see.
Am Fluss der Zeiten. It's in German, but I just finished it today and left a Nostr review.

All of my motivation to post content is non-monetary.
Almost nobody looks at any of it, but I keep posting it. Almost nobody uses my clients, but I keep building them. I was making elaborate web pages in the 90s, when there were like 10 people on the Internet and you had to handroll the HTML tags and it was fun.
I've always just done stuff, for the sake of doing it. Like I sometimes see that a park is dirty and I just come back with some rubber gloves and trash bags and start cleaning it up because I don't want it to be dirty anymore, and then it is clean and I am happy about it. Sometimes I start a clean up project that meets as a group, and cleans that park up, regularly, and then it's always clean and I am always happy about it.
I am grateful when people give me money because it helps me finance all of the infrastructure costs, but I am genuinely surprised that they ever do, which is why I never think to apply for grants. Software grants filter for people who are used to getting money for building software or think that they should be getting money for building software, the same way that beauty pageants filter for girls who are used to being told that they are beautiful or who think that someone should be telling them they are beautiful. Nobody else knows if they qualify, so they just sit in the audience and clap, when someone official-looking says, "Please clap."
But maybe that is just me.
When people post their LLM conversations and are like, "Whoa, so deep," and you read the convo and it's not deep.
@npub1utx…50e8 Which relays are you using for the client analytics?
Austrian girl manages to beat AI to the punch solving a mathematical problem, despite not having a gigantic data center to help her.
Which highlights a major flaw in the "AI is smarter than humans" narrative: humans have no direct access to the same giant computational facilities. They cannot simply write a program and run it on those machines. The machines are all controlled by the AI companies, so you have to use their AI as a gateway to the compute, and then they can claim their AI helped solved the problem.

I like modern art and folk art. The older and more formal stuff is highly redundant, dull, and almost all of it was low quality, but you don't realize that because you only know the famous stuff that survived people dumping ugly things in the bin.
