Why would a business pay for a relay either? That doesn't make sense either. If they can write to nos.lol for free.
I heard there is some AI bot out there that was bought by a multi-million dollar company and that bot "uses Nostr" in the sense that it blasters notes to a hundred free and public relays.
To some people Nostr is defined as a collection of free servers anyone can write anything to, as long as that anything is formatted as a weird JSON string with a meaningless signature.
Nobody pays for relays because there are free and public relays available. Why would anyone pay to write to a random relay if they can get the same benefit for free?
I wouldn't mind having an ecosystem only with relays that you have to be invited to, or pay, or do some other thing to prove you're worth writing to that. It would make everything much more interesting.
But if someone is willing to keep running nos.lol for free forever then just use that.
There are other reasons to pay for relays (to make and read good relay feeds, to have clean inboxes and provide clean threads to people who read your content, to be part of a high-signal relay for people who pay), but not many people are aware of these cool possibilities.
Even then, at the current Nostr size, we can easily just run on some cheap whitelisted relays and everybody should still be able to talk freely.

I think the issue is not with the WoT, although it might be a little bit of that too. But with the fact that it opens a bunch of connections to a bunch of relays and keeps those open ingesting tons of events every second. It's like a big Primal server on its own, and maybe my libraries are not very well-optimized for that.
I think that approach is bad and shouldn't be encouraged. What is the size of the database? Must be huge at this point.
Do you really want to ingest millions of events from people who don't even know your relay exists? If not, then I may offer you an alternative solution.
If yes, then I can think of some changes that would save some CPU, but I don't want to work on that and there are probably better solutions out there built by robots.

I run more than 50 relays plus a bunch of other things for $5/mo. That gives us $0.10 per relay.

The stupid world overlords have been moving the world out of the text paradigm and into retarded media like videos for a long time. The LLM revolution has served to fix that at least.
It's getting interesting....

Oh. I see. You want it to pump higher than where the dump began. Let me check the tarot cards...
Clouded, the future is. [Yoda meme here]
I dunno. I barely care. But if you were hoping for the clarity act to pump bitcoin's price, I have some news for you:
Bitcoin doesn't need it. That's what inevitable means. Hodl.
You shall get you pump. Right after this dump. Promise.
