We’re propagating our Old English Wallflowers, creating clones from a potted mother plant. We currently have a bunch of starts in 3 pots. I’m getting ready to separate and re-pot those starts into 11 pots. The Wallflowers have a bunch of small blooms, that smell absolutely heavenly, when in flower. The blossoms range from all yellow, to something akin to a watercolor with pink, rose and yellow hues. When in bloom, we keep the pots close to our outdoor veranda seating area to enjoy the aroma. With respect, not voting IS voting for fascism. We are already moving the Democratic party to the left, but it won’t happen overnight. A new generation of leadership is in the wings. But this election is the most important one maybe ever. If the R’s win, our democracy is done. We’ll be looking at a surveillance police state run by billionaires and oligarchs. If we elect Dems, vote blue, we can energize the resistance with congressional majorities. It’s more about preventing a fascist takeover and holding currently serving criminals accountable than it is electing candidates we like imo. Lots of Dems I don’t particularly like, but I’ll hold my nose and vote blue to save the damn country; and, because I have hope we can MAKE the Democratic party better represent us. No way the R’s would ever consider our priorities…they’re bought by corporate interests, funded by billionaires, and intent on turning the US into a fascist, authoritarian state. Thank you for your service. I agree that Oregon can better deal with homelessness, and I personally believe we need to do much more. Especially for our Veterans. Portland & Eugene have a long way to go. Here in the Medford area, we’re doing a better job. The city has taken over a couple of older, downtown motels & converted them to housing. There’s also a designated fenced camping area & some tiny-house developments to address the issue. And we have a close-by residential VA Domiciliary. But there’s still more to do in terms of treatment & recovery services - for those who need/want them. Large encampments raise public heath, crime, refuse accumulation and drug use issues that cannot be ignored. So it’s up to cities, counties & the state to implement policies & create resources to make encampments safe for both the homeless who live in them and the surrounding communities. Easy to say, hard to do. I think we should look at universal basic income disbursements. Provide housing & $$.

Yes, I agree and am concerned about the viability of the ‘circular’ financing model that is currently supporting the industry. Others have noted the similarity to the great British railroad crash of the 1840’s - an apt comparison imo. Too much, too soon, too overbuilt in a frenzy of FOMO. A lot of off-the-books private credit involved is also troubling. Looks to me a lot like a bubble ready to burst. On another subject, we’ve had a couple of young white-tail deer bucks adopt our hillside property of late. We keep wildlife corridors open (unlike some of our neighbors) and though we don’t feed wildlife, we do keep troughs of water available during high temperature days. Country life in the #PNW is awesome.
