I don’t have it in me right now to bring up a good suggestion but I think a good answer to this would be a great blog subject and very valuable for the industry

I get it, I asked some dudes a while ago if I could make a photo as they were doing some really exciting work on electrical infrastructure that I wanted to show my wife. I asked excitedly if I could make a photo but they asked me not to. Due to sensitivity of the work or something. But I guess maybe these peeps doing outside work get bothered more than we know. However it is the kneejerk reaction we all have towards eachother because we were burned before is what makes me sad. :(

I wish people who get narky would have the patience to listen to what the other person has to say. I think people get defensive in their aggression somehow and it’s hard to explain afterward what you were doing or how you were already trying to accomodate them.

Youtubers or meeting organisers: how about "roasting" websites and technology? I wonder if with comedy we could make people appreciate all the things they don’t realise are well-built.

So far, a lot of sass toward the Silicon Valley trend of renaming websites that are not ‘Single Page Apps’ made with JS frameworks to something else 😂

Ugh. A really fun Dutch writer and comedian passed away today: Paulien Cornelisse. In a news article about her passing they quoted her saying that she was pretty proud of this column, so I share it in her honor with in the alt text the English translation. Her writing was lighthearted, taking the ordinary things that people say and do and putting a spotlight on them for a little smile. I’ll miss her :(

2026-04-22 10:31:15 UTC

me look at myself very differently (as actually ‘good enough’ with the right people) and I guess that makes me very defensive of online relationships. I have a history of bringing people together that otherwise wouldn’t have met. Multiple people have gotten married, gotten babies, and even transitioned while getting support from these communities, that wouldn’t be there without me.
I think people are just afraid to be vulnerable on and offline. That is what creates superficial behavior.

2026-04-22 10:28:34 UTC

- reply

so my upbringing was basically
- you’re not smart enough
- you’re not social enough
- you’re not pretty enough
Over and over and over again. (I am still trying to deprogram myself).
So with that background combined with the general idea in the 90’s and the 00’s that ‘online’ and ‘real life’ are two seperate identities of a person, I also get a little triggered by this.
I was defined as being ‘anti social’ and then a friend I had met online said I was actually hyper social. That helped >

Yesterday I saw someone boast that as a designer he can just feed his figma file to an AI and “instantly get a working product”. “It’s not vibecoding”, he wrote on LinkedIn, “I am guiding the software”.
This saves him so much time he now has time left for freelance work! …
What is it with these people who think their expertise is the one thing AI can’t do, while shouting from the rooftops it can do everything and replace everyone else? 🤪 is this how some people mentally deal with this stuff?

on thursday the teacher teaching my sowing course explained how fast fashion cuts fabrics in a way that is a little thriftier but makes the end result harder to wear. Like materials that don’t stretch except in a diagonal that cause ‘twisty jean pipes’. So the answer might as well be that more expensive jeans don’t have that problem and be different in that regard from the cheaper ones.

I get it and I have actually myself set up RSS feeds for the Tubantia that ran for more than a decade after I worked there :) but there is noone at the papers doing some modernization direction or thinking about what digital tools to use or how to do it responsibly. Just want to help understand the background here. If it’s something you want and think would be good, a paper would probably be delighted to get help with this stuff, even if they’re part of DPG here

2026-01-07 10:07:03 UTC

- reply

um, I actually blame the non-considered inclusion of RSS feeds in newspaper website systems in the 90s for the fact people expect their news for free. Newspapers don’t want to reach an audience; journalists do. Newspapers want to keep paying journalists and thus have copyright/control/make money. And they don’t make any off you not going to their website.
(As an idealist I feel similar to you but I also know journalism takes a lot of time and can’t be done as a hobby)

My highschool bff told me about a high school reunion taking place next week. Since signing up for it I have been nervous for it 🫣 especially because the reunion of my childhood girl scouts troop absolutely sucked for me - no-one seemed to remember me and it was super awkward. So last weekend we visited Copenhagen. We had bought tickets through NS Interntional to take the train (Enschede-Munster-Hamburg-Copenhagen) but
- the train to Munster got cancelled due to a staff shortage with DB (NS international had no idea)
- a detour through Hengelo/Bielefeld got cancelled (again NS International, no idea)
- the rescheduled connection was impossible with a 45 minute delay announced two hours before
So we took a train through NL (also with a delay) and booked plane tickets
