And now for something completely different... actually, I could almost swear I made a render not-quite-exactly like this years ago, but I can't find it anywhere for the life of me - it probably sucks ass anyway compared to what I can do in XPS nowadays, so here's the new and improved take.

2026-10-24T19:07:47Z

It occurred to me that I don't tend to experiment much with output resolutions on XPS, just the same handful of sizes over and over again... so I tinkered with that a bit and dialed the scale factor to 500%.

Fun Fact: XPS includes the option to ratchet up the scale to 1000%... but throws up an error message whenever output is attempted while that value is selected. It's very probable that value isn't supposed to be an option at all.

Randomly got hit with inspiration to remake two separate render concepts into a single image... not sure what happened to the hair texture, but it's a minor hiccup I don't feel too inclined to fix on what basically amounts to a shitpost (hell, I probably put more effort into facial expressions alone than I should have).

Girlfriend's gonna be watching the house again, but I'm definitely gonna have some explaining to do when I get back - as far as she knows, all of my short trips were for job interviews that went nowhere, but they're actually all medical.

After mostly recovering from the split-kneecap incident a few years back, I was left with some loose ends to tie up, and that's finally gonna be dealt with. I remember how pale she got when I told her my kneecap needed to be put back together with screws - that's why I'm waiting until AFTER everything's sorted out this time to tell her.

I know I made an "executive decision" to turn what used to be walls into walkable ground on my version of the map, but that's mainly because I had little choice. The highlighted tiles are a special case - they're not walls or natural barriers, just regular ground tiles that are rendered inaccessible because the one walkable tile adjacent to each of them just so happens to be the loading zone for a sub-map or another screen. They're purely aesthetic, and there's no real reason for that to change.
