I was going to say that this isn't bad practice as all for a passphrase because its not that big of a deal if it has limited entropy anyway, it should be treated as an "extra measure" rather than the true entropy for the seed anyway, and in that case memorable can save your ass.

If you are using a Mk3 through the Q and didn't use a lot of dice rolls in generating your keys, consider it compromised and move to any quick location you can find. If you have another wallet without a coldcard, send it there, if you have a trusted exchange send it there temporarily, if you can create a quick software wallet send it there. Make sure all the normal process and backups are done carefully during this and then prepare for a better multisig setup for your replacement.
My tools i used with a couple of people and for myself when i couldn't remember which software i set up one of my CC keys with:
- connect CC to sparrow, import and it will find any and all related keys and balances. You can send from there to any new keys or non CC keys you have
- generate a new key or hell if you are limited just send it to a good exchange like river to get it out of harms way as quick as you can. You can get a better setup after you get it out of immediate danger

Imagine thinking that one achieves independence from a totalitarian ruler without paying some price for it?
No volatility, no risk, no days of losses, no period of stagnancy, no regulatory risk, no institutions fighting back. Just skipping through meadows and green candles and then throwing in the towel the moment the wind blows.
Bitcoin isn't about getting rich, if that's why you're here then you've lost the plot. Bitcoin is about not being beholden to the waste and corruption of a class of people who live off of monetary fraud. Bitcoin is about PROVING that they cannot dilute us for their wars, they cannot counterfeit for their subsidies, they cannot indebt us and our children and their children to get the lie of "free stuff" today.
Bitcoin is about independence and the risk and costs that come with it. We may get wealthy IF we achieve independence. But we will never get it asking for permission or waiting for green candles before even taking a stance.
Imagine if the American founders had said "we pledge our lives as long as we are comfortable, our fortunes as long as they only go up, and our sacred honor as long as we only benefit from this quest. Otherwise we apologize and ask the King's approval."
Some people may not understand that this is THE battle, and maybe they have no idea how or where they are paying for the corruption of their own society. But they are paying for it nonetheless. Bitcoin is the solution and it's not because its going to go up every day you hold it. Quite literally the opposite in fact. When we take away the power to dilute the money, we force them to come straight to our door with their guns and demand what we have earned directly.
Bitcoin's mission is to destroy the illusion that they are giving us something for free, and prove that the state is a system of violence and the central bank is a system of covert theft at an unheard of scale.
That is the purpose of this tool. It is *independence* through technological rebellion. Not wealth. It is *risking our wealth* for a chance at ending the era of central banking and infinite debts and a world where kids grow up with the poisonous and absurd notion that even as technology becomes more advanced and our capacity to produce grows exponentially, somehow everything still gets "naturally" more expensive and wealth becomes more concentrated.
Nothing could be further from the obvious truth. It is govt debt, the central bank money printer, and the counterfeit class that huddles around them like leeches that suffocate society of what would otherwise be stable and consistent growth in our general prosperity, time, and meaning.
If you are here only because of 50% returns and leave when it falls 25%... we are not the same.

Mining pool centralization is a very isolated and limited risk. There’s tons that cannot be changed or isn’t at risk because of this. It’s simply a vulnerability to a certain class of problem.
To compare that to the nature of fiat and the myriad ways we are getting F’d is like comparing someone who keeps you in a cage and whips you every time you don’t do exactly what they say, with someone who throws eggs on your house when they get frustrated and inconveniences you for an hour or so.
Centralization in mining pools is a class of a problem that lives in a totally separate universe from the problems of fiat.

Nothing i said made any claim at all about whether you should run a pruned versus a full node.
The data above is exactly the same no matter what you choose. So if you feel that strongly about pruned nodes, don't run one. Nobody anywhere in any way said you should run one or the other so i don't know what you're wigging out about.

Pruning occurs after validation. It's purely a storage choice and has nothing to do with whether you download the entire chain or not. The IBD operates exactly the same with the pruned node simply dropping block data earlier than a certain threshold after validation and keeping the UTXO set.
In other words, it's literally no different.

That seems like a lot of work to demonstrate the obvious. 😆 I mean just off the top of my head I can see dozens of different motion and muscles that are activated, you have to actually picture the shape and flow of the letter and the word, predict the spacing of the words, etc - there’s numerous things that typing is explicitly supposed to be a shortcut for, thus those things wouldn’t be activated.
I guess I’m not trying to hate, but it seems a little “duh” to me, lol. And when it comes to remembering what you wrote vs typed, it also makes sense that you would retain it a little better when written specifically because tying it to a more intricate and explicit motion actually sets things into the mind more concretely. If every letter and word is different, there’s a lot of pathways being fired. When typing everything is just the same tap motion.

I’ve considered a few different paths, and that’s actually a really interesting one I hadn’t considered, basically running a node professionally and using the podcast as its “public face” so to speak. That’s a clever idea actually.
But generally speaking, 99.5% of podcasts probably do not make meaningful money. I had 2 good years but trying to squeeze money out of it is a serious battle, *especially* when you don’t just take whoever comes asking you to shill or take money from guests to come on the pod. Like
You said, it doesn’t feel too different from squeezing juice from a rock (gonna save this and use it later. Will not credit you for it, fyi 🤣).
I’ve been making a lot of changes because I’m shifting the show towards Guy’s Takes and away from grass. We feel the reads were sort of in a sweet spot when it comes to newcomers wanting to learn about Bitcoin, and when it was hard to digest written content. But we seem past that zone. I was considering reviving the “zap for reads” thing I did for a bit and thought was really fun. And then keeping reads only to that list and do them more sparingly. Then the main takes are just me trying to give a more genuine “Bitcoiner who actually lives on bitcoin every day” take on things when so many podcasters and commentators literally don’t touch it. I saw someone talking about them finally going to setup a node and I just went full wtf. I won’t call them out because that’s awesome they are going to start one up, but damn they’d never run a node before and are spouting their opinion every day, probably about spam wars, and how people should use it, and hold their keys, etc.
Don’t want to throw shade, but still, lol. Anyway that’s where my head has been and it’s been stressing me because basically the other option is to let it go and I don’t want to do that. But it’s hard to make it worthwhile at the same time, especially when I *have* to make other frustrating and time consuming projects make money in order to be able to keep doing it.
Right now I’ve been spending 2 years on a really big bet, and on something that I think is super valuable for everyone. Let’s hope it’s not just another really expensive thing that doesn’t make its money back 🤣. Just keep moving forward amiright?

I’m probably just being sensitive because you calling me a “paid influencer” when all I do is turn down sponsors and I’ve lost money on the show for a year and a half honestly makes me feel like shit. There was a panic following the breakdown of the war and infrastructure debts in the early 1870s, but the early 1880s are claimed to have a depression that was only declared in hindsight. There was a smaller credit contraction during this period but it’s mostly equated as a depression only because of *price* deflation and not because living standards went down. Quite the opposite happened.
In fact the 70s and 80s are semi decent examples of the difference between a debt crisis caused by federal govt spending, and deflation that occurs naturally making things more affordable. But economists today simply look at “deflation” and label as bad.

I explained exactly why in the second paragraph. I gave the exact reasons why no one is experiencing it. And it’s not “theory,” it’s exactly what happens in the absence of massive money printing. In fact, in the sectors that out pace it, we even still experience today. Computation and electronics all improve so fast that every element of compute gets more affordable every year despite trillions printed.

If you have a central entity issuing infinite credit from nothing at an arbitrary price because they issue it from nothing, then everything you just laid out is meaningless.
If on the other hand, you have a sound money where people are lending real savings and thus the supply is real and not make believe, then everything you explained is simply exactly how a market works.

They say we issue debt from nothing because it “grows the economy” and it’s a “net benefit.”
Well… if we have 2% price inflation, it means the “net” is explicitly a loss. Otherwise stuff would be more affordable. 2% inflation means that the cost of explicitly out weighed the additional production, because the net result was clearly that things got 2% more expensive.
This is exactly why you can’t afford a house, you need 2 earners, and you have no time. You’ve been losing minimum 2% on net of living standard every year for decades.

The electric credit system isn’t bad, it’s simply regulated by a *real* interest rate and genuine savings being loaned.
Otherwise it’s either being manipulate by price controls (on interest rates) or by fraud (rehypothecation and fake backing). But there’s nothing inherently wrong with credit. It’s the fake prices, central bank manipulation, and financial fraud to fake economic signals that is bad.

Bitcoin maximalism isn’t monopoly. It’s common sense. That’s like saying everyone having the same free speech is a “human rights monopoly.”
Money has the most powerful and most convergent network effects of anything in an economic system, because it’s what *defines trade* in that system. If a society uses a different money, it’s more accurate to call it a separate society than a different part of the same one. This is why one can be viciously poor, unproductive, and industrialized, right next to a modern economy in the internet age.
If sound money is to bring the world together and offer a genuine foundation for a free market society, it will be with *one* monetary base, to the degree that it can sustain and garner trust in its radical neutrality and immutability.

Yes. The period from the late 1870s to about 1900 experienced the most sustained natural price deflation probably in US history, and it also happens to be called “the Industrial Revolution.” And the greatest period of rising living standards occurred during this as well.
The reason recent “deflationary” period are called recessions or depressions is because they are *credit* deflations. It’s caused by excessive fiat debt issuance from thin air. Look at Japan for the past 20 years, look at the Great Depression. Check the debt levels, they are credit deflations, not deflation from growth.
But the most obvious actually right in front of you. It’s the phone you’re holding in your hand. The price deflation in computers and electronics has been so extraordinary that its even outpaced inflation by an order of magnitude. But it’s the *exact* same thing. If you cram 10x the amount of gates in a chip or build a machine that produces chairs at twice the rate, you’re doing the same thing, improving productivity and output and lowering the cost of the good.
That’s natural deflation. We would have that in every sector, in every good and service, essentially always, if we had sound money.

Every major company issues debt and credit cards to users because arbitraging the debt printer is easier than actually producing value.
It’s entirely parasitic, but the govt and central bank are making it one of the lowest risk and most profitable plays in the economy.

It’s not a distributed network at all though. Pubky is a social network on a central server. The identity and authentication tool is what they are talking about when they says it’s decentralized/dsitributed.
Some of their marketing is a mess though and I think they do a generally poor job of explaining how the user relates to what they’ve built. Everything they discuss is about architecture and not the user experience.
