I’m not sure what a Death Doula is in Canada but here in Australia they are simply people that work with terminally ill patients and their families. Helping them with discussions around palliative care etc. Often they just sit, talk to and comfort the dying person, much like priests and chaplains used to do.
I imagine Canada is the same.
They are generally nothing to do with “assisted dying”, which we also have here. That’s not to say they may not be called upon to help a family cope with the decision of a loved one who wants to take that path. I expect that they are.
But in the main they are just people that provide secular assistance to the dying and their families. They likely exist in other countries but are called a different name eg social workers/counsellors that deal with end of life.
If you’ve ever spent time in a palliative care unit watching someone die, you will better understand their role.

“History is not just the evolution of technology; it is the evolution of thought. By understanding the reality of the people who came before us, we can see why we look at the world the way we do, and what our contribution is toward further progress. We can pinpoint where we come in, so to speak, in the longer development of Civilization, and that gives us a sense of where we are going!”
