It's still a work in progress. A LOT more will be documented on our website, including architecture and advanced FAQ. Everything will come out in one go. A few more weeks.

Have you tried publishing already? Your web of trust rank should be high enough not to require whitelisting

2026-10-06 21:59:46 UTC

Replacing our indexing software, so there won't be external updates until tomorrow due to this maintenance operation.
Self-publishing not affected.
We now placed all emphasis on certificates, so if you get another "certificate mismatch" just know it will be the last time.
We picked one stable key per app, and honor rotations. Prioritizing self-signed apps and deprioritizing external builds such as F-Droid.
This is the first step towards v2.

It's no longer possible. But our cert hash is in Privacy Guides verified-apps repo, can it be added as source?
Copy paste good otherwise

You kinda need something to update your apps.
Npub was never tied to your apps and will never be. Soon, we won't even see your installed apps.

Aurora is Play Store so don't expect us there. I'll try to push it to F-Droid.
You can download from zapstore.dev and check the hash. It's in our nostr bio.

Sorry to hear that. We made improvements, a big update on that front coming tomorrow

Zapstore v2 is becoming almost a full rewrite. The clankers, @nprofile…azl0 and @nprofile…a8ff have been going hard on development (but mostly systems design) for many weeks now.
It is the first time I can say everything *actually* makes sense. We have a cohesive product story that is reflected in every project that constitutes it.
Including how we communicate it. It's a freedom tech product, not just a nostr one anymore.
This is why I'm quite silent, and why there are no incremental updates. The whole product will be launched at once.
We can finally push features we've been asked for, for ages. I'm particularly excited about the new privacy and security features. Publishing and discovery as well.
The new website is looking hot. Not only way faster but more clear. No more ambiguities around rules for publishing.
I have also taken time to sharpen tools and operations, many are now agent-first (public and internal). And app releases should happen more often.
Fortunately, it seems we won't have many migration or backward-compatibility issues.
Hard work, probably a million decisions taken already to reshape this in the right direction. Excited for what the future holds.

Done!
Appears to be a great Google Maps alternative:

Not at all.
Don't confuse a demand with an entitled attitude as "feedback".
I hate spyware, spam and scams as much as you. I'm working on ways to mitigate it. You have zero claims on what I do with my time, is that not clear?
You're welcome again if you ask kindly.

I don't understand when you talk in brands. We only support arm64-v8a for now. We will support armeabi-v7a (32 bit) in the future.

We will release the whole v2 at once, so whenever it's ready. Likely 2-4 more weeks.

It is certainly an opinion.
I said we're working on warnings for potential anti-features. You'll be able to read 2 sentences and decide whether to install or not.

2026-09-23 16:21:25 UTC

That's why it's an open protocol and you should run your catalog with your opinion

2026-09-23 16:12:34 UTC

1) it's not simple
2) i don't like spyware but it's not clear cut and yes i will be censoring
3) malicious apps have gone into google play, i can't possibly stop everything
4) i'm not here to "protect the people", i do what i can
5) "make an app that makes it easy": how about you put some effort?
6) making a living with v4v is a pipe dream and not what nostr is about

2026-09-23 15:42:55 UTC

- reply

It's an impossible problem. If I check and remove apps I will be called a censor. So this is the tradeoff we chose: users responsibility.
If you don't like it, more than welcome to run your own catalog. This is an open spec. Try making a living with value for value, good luck.

In this new design that wouldn't be hard to include! Where can we pull this data from?

2026-09-23 14:47:04 UTC

- reply

Yes, it's just that few are reproducible and we need providers. @nprofile…0ut5 was on it.

2026-09-23 14:45:17 UTC

The main issue Zapstore attempts to solve is trust on first use. Updates are secured by the OS, though some developers leak keys so we can also help there.
There will be a security & privacy report for each listing, provided by each catalog relay. In ours (default) we strive to do as few takedowns as possible -only terms violations- and defer responsibility to the user by giving them the highest signal possible for their decision.
So on top of the report, we are going to have a transparent reputation rating for each certificate (with a breakdown) and other inputs like attestations for reproducibility and nostr web of trust — don't expect the latter to be abundant for now.
Is there anything in particular you wished in terms of security?

2026-09-23 14:32:28 UTC

- reply

Yes! It will be trivial to filter now

Vast minority of apps are nostr signed, so nostr can't be the center of reputation. Certificates are, and they get reputation from multiple sources including nostr. Even with some trust in the catalog this is actually more useful. Also, no more certificate mismatch errors.

2026-09-23 14:24:58 UTC

I'm working on exactly this for v2, a security/privacy report. No we will not take down apps unless they violate our catalog terms. It is also your responsibility to check. And yes this shit is hard to do with little resources.

Which one is a spoof exactly?
I don't think anyone has a monopoly on the word Iris.
It's a hard problem and we're tackling it in v2, actually, basing reputation on nostr was a mistake

2026-09-21 20:14:03 UTC

A Bitcoin node syncs blocks and queries locally.
Organic Maps pulls tiles and queries locally.
Why can't Zapstore pull release bundles and query locally?
At first this sounded crazy.
It turns out it's (almost) the holy grail of privacy and UX.
Initial prototype of v2 is insanely promising.
App written in Kotlin from scratch.
Browsing apps is instant. Search is orders of magnitude better.
For update checks, no need to reveal your installed app set to any remote server.
Tor by default.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
More soon.

Exactly this, but I will add that you are prompted to verify the download URL, which in many cases is the developer's Github. So github user/repo comes comes into play there too - which is exactly what Obtainium does.
