I remember first watching TV at home in Holland during the very early 60s. Yet here I am today on Nostr, owning Bitcoin and despising main stream TV.

Copied/pasted the following from “The Dutch Archeologist” on Facebook via Google search (I’m not active on FB, only Nostr):
On the evening of 2 October 1951, a new era quietly began in the Netherlands.
At 8:15 p.m., the first official national Dutch television broadcast started from Studio Irene in Bussum.
There was only one problem.
Almost nobody owned a television.
The Netherlands Institute for Sound & Vision records that there were roughly 500 television sets in the entire country at the time.
State Secretary Jo Cals and NTS chairman Professor J.B. Kors opened the broadcast. Viewers then saw programming including music and a television play called De Toverspiegel—The Magic Mirror.
Appropriately, the play was about television itself.
The new medium was presented almost like science fiction: a device capable of bringing distant people, events and worlds directly into the home.
The actual moving television images from that first evening have not survived. Photographs remain, along with audio recordings of the opening speeches.
Television spread quickly afterward.
Sets appeared in cafés and shop windows before becoming common in Dutch living rooms. Neighbours who did not own one might visit somebody who did.
Within a generation, something that only a few hundred Dutch households could experience had become one of the central features of everyday life.
The strange part is how recent that transformation was.
In 1951, nationwide Dutch television did not begin with millions watching.
It began with only hundreds of screens.

Watched an Agatha Christie style movie tonight, 🎥 called Murder at the Embassy. It's not at all intense, in fact my husband had nodded off while we were watching. Wanted a slow paced, easy viewing film. 😌

A few spider 🕷️ stories to help you sleep. 💤
Fun fact about huntsman spiders...
In Australia, huntsman spiders are infamous for causing traffic accidents. They love to hide behind car sun visors or dashboards to avoid the heat. When a driver flips down the visor, the spider unexpectedly drops into their lap or onto the steering wheel, causing sudden panic and sudden swerves.
I can vouch for that. Happened to me, although I'm still proud of how I kept my cool in the right hand lane of the freeway, gradually indicating my way through two lanes to calmly guide my car into the emergency lane. Lucky that it was in the days of rolled up newspapers. I swatted it out of the car. 🤣
My other huntsman spider story is being on the phone to a friend to say I arrived home safely after a night out. Single women did that for each other back then. Maybe these days too. Anyhow, I hadn't yet turned on a light and while chatting I noticed a blob on the wall in the dim light. Thought to myself, "I don't remember hanging anything there". So I asked my friend to hang on while I checked. Turned on the light and immediately screamed in my friend's ear! 😂 Then asked her to hang on for a bit longer while I got the vacuum cleaner. After sucking up the monster sized huntsman spider, I got a plastic bag and elastic bands to seal it up and didn't vacuum for quite some time till I knew it was dead. 🫣🤣😂
I did once hear another funny spider story, of a woman walking past a house from which she could hear loud banging and a male voice aggressively calling out, "Die, you bitch! Die, you bitch! Why won't you #%!&*# die?"
So the woman phoned the police to report what she heard. When a patrol car went to investigate, it turned out to be a guy trying to smack down a huntsman spider with his footwear. True story. Reported on news channel which is where I think I heard it, years ago. Hope I relayed it correctly. 🤭😂
