Dr. Courtney Howard, chair of the Global Climate and Health Alliance and the president-elect of the Canadian Medical Association, says that the reality of climate change is steadily getting worse.
"We're not at a new normal," she said. "There's no flat line currently on the emissions graph, and therefore there is no flat line in terms of the heat."

• creates “regions of national interest” where environmental reviews can’t stop projects
• reduces protections for species at risk and opens the door for industry lawsuits
• allows construction to begin on projects before an impact assessment is completed
• allows a designated minister to override project conditions

It's worth noting the impatient, childish response of Dawn Farrell (CEO of Carney's Major Projects Office) here, complaining that they've already given First Nations enough consultation on this tarsands pipeline in just two months - with no impact assessments, no data on potential risks. She complains that the government's constitutional duty to consult makes her feel like Canada is "never going to work":

The leaders of British Columbia's three main parties are to face off today in their only debate of the snap provincial election.
NDP Leader David Eby, interim Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson and Green Leader Emily Lowan are to debate from 6:15 to 8PM, with all major television and radio networks broadcasting the event.

"It is a plan that looks beyond the failures of the status quo and beyond the wishes of the multinational corporations that have had a stranglehold on B.C. for far too long," Lowan says.

4. Approving a “national interest project” without knowing any details about it, and before any meaningful discussions with affected First Nations can be held, 'runs contrary to Indigenous peoples’ interests and constitutionally protected rights.'
5. 'Canada is already experiencing first-hand the devasting costs of climate change – from wildfires and heat waves, to severe storms and flooding, invasive species, and other impacts on water and wildlife. This project would only make the situation worse.'
