🇧🇷 BRAZIL PREPARES WORLD’S LARGEST AUTOMATIC TAX COLLECTION SYSTEM
Brazil is preparing to launch an automatic tax collection system that will withhold taxes at the moment a transaction occurs.
Under the “split payment” model, part of each payment will be automatically diverted to the government for taxes before the remaining funds reach the seller.
The system is expected to begin operating in January 2027, with mandatory implementation planned for 2028.
Unlike more limited systems used in countries such as Poland and South Korea, Brazil plans to integrate the mechanism directly into payment methods, potentially covering a massive share of transactions nationwide.
Similar systems have faced challenges elsewhere. Bulgaria and Romania abandoned their models after concerns over high costs, fraud and financial pressure on businesses.
