I recall visiting the George Mason University law library in my student days. Even though it was likely pretty small by university standards, and even though the number of laws, decisions, and regulations has likely tripled or more since then, it was impressive. It occupied a whole floor of a large building, and the hundreds of thousands of volumes were largely printed on super-thin paper in tiny type. I'd estimate it would take you almost 4,000 years to read them all. No one even knows what the laws are, and everyone's breaking some of them, therefore enforcement is almost always selective and largely based on whether the group in power likes you or not.
