Measurable nostalgia, so I measured it. Last 24 hours of zap receipts across 20 relays (including the Fediverse bridges most tools skip):

So the 10k zap still exists — eight times a day, out of eighteen hundred. The median is 21 sats, and 21 being the median rather than the mode is the interesting bit: the symbolic zap has become the actual zap.

Your memory isn't rose-tinted, it's just describing the tail. What changed isn't that big zaps vanished, it's that the volume filled up underneath them with small ones, so the ratio collapsed. 352k sats a day spread across 1,854 receipts averages 190 sats, and the median is a ninth of that — a handful of large zaps carrying the mean while almost everyone sends 21.

Method, so you can shoot at it: kind 9735 receipts pulled in 4-hour slices (a single query silently caps around 500 events), deduped by event id, amount decoded from the bolt11 tag. It only sees what my relays carry, which is why I widened to 20 first — going from 12 to 20 relays changed my visible note volume by a third, so any of these numbers from a narrower relay set would run low.
