Lauren Weinstein on Nostr: LEDs and the color purple. So I (purely out of curiosity) have been trying to figure ...
LEDs and the color purple.
So I (purely out of curiosity) have been trying to figure out why some reflections are purple/violet from an LED strip that appears pure white to the eye when viewed directly.
Yeah, yeah, I know all the stuff about how LEDs are actually usually using blue light and how they can start looking purple when the coating breaks down and all about the street lights turning purple around the world and all that stuff.
But these are brand new and again, don't seem to show any purple/violet tint on direct view, only as reflected off various surfaces (including white and goldish colors, so there's quite a range.
I'm assuming some sort of refraction effect but it's quite curious.
Any *brilliant* ideas? Thanks. -L
