One of my pet theories (that I've never had confirmed) is lawyers freaking out about the possibility of patent lawsuits.
The more details of the implementation that you publish, the less work someone needs to bring a patent lawsuit (even a frivolous one).
As I said, I've not seen any confirmation, but I suspect it's part of the risk/reward analysis in these cases.
