It's a decent alternative to a civil war instigated by a two-party stranglehold on democracy. It's also something which could (initially) happen at the state level, assuming the entrenched ruling parties would ever allow it to.
But I think it's fairly apparent by this point that having two parties is barely better than one, especially when being purchased by business interests becomes an accepted part of the system.
In Europe voters can tell all of the large and powerful parties to go fuck themselves at the same time if they get too corrupt, and vote for the same underlying principles in the new parties which rise out of the ashes or newly invigorated smaller parties. In the US we have to choose between bad and worse, time after time.
