This is really useful, thank you. I honestly hadn’t thought about the clicking sound in this much detail. I just noticed that it disappeared after the updates and assumed the problem was gone. I’ll check the SMART values you mentioned and also run vmstat 5 while the machine is under load. I’m especially curious now whether what I’m feeling as “2 GB RAM isn’t enough” is actually partly the system swapping to the old disk. I haven’t experimented with zram yet either, so that gives me another thing to learn. This is exactly the kind of explanation I find useful because it gives me something concrete to test instead of just guessing from how the machine feels. And your point about replies still makes sense too. I’ve noticed the same thing on Nostr: real conversations usually seem to start inside other conversations, not from just posting into the feed.
