I've just come to accept that Amethyst is going to spam me... which is helpful in maintaining situational awareness 😅

As far as the encryption thing, yeah. I understand the frustration, but doesn't the process add quite a bit of weight to the client? Maybe it would be nice to have an option as to whether the user wants to encrypt such lists? Amethyst already does that for mutes and follows.
